Rare Earth magnets
I use them for a lot of tasks. They come in various sizes. The most useful are the 1/4" dia balls. I also like the ones they sell for cabinet closure. I keep twenty of these in my BOB. They are about 2/3 the size of a pencil eraser. The uses are endless. As buttons, temporarily connecting two pieces of plastic or cloth, etc. Also, a couple of them will attach to any of your small metal gear like loose fish hooks, safety pins, needles pins, small knives and etc. They all sit there clumped together on the magnet instead of hiding in the seams of you bag.
One of the balls stuck in your pocket is a great way to collect screws and nuts when you are working on a project. Nothing iron evades their attention. Screws and small parts aren't lost.
I have secret uses too involving a product called a Starr. Patent pending
