A couple years ago I had to repair the car remote on my keychain. The plastic part broke off that held it onto the keychain. I improvised and used Spider Wire to repair it (rather than get a new remote). Spider Wire is strong braided fishing line. Well, after all this time it's still holdin' on strong.
So, an idea came up to see if I could tether a small
firesteel to my keychain. So I gave Spider Wire a try and so far (about a week) it's held up nicely to the typical day to day beating my keys endure.
I wrapped the Spider Wire around one end of the Mini Firesteel similar to wrapping
550 paracord around a knife handle. I looped the line under the windings so I could tuck the loose ends and tug on the loop so the line stays tight around the rod.
I like this concept because I'm always trying to travel light. I bought a bunch of these from
Firesteel.com and plan to put these in my cars, my backpack, survival kits, give some to friends, etc... It's nice to know that just about anywhere I go I'll at least have a means to make a fire.
