Question Repairing leather gloves

I've got a pair of commercial thin 'comfortable' (as in not meant for rugged use) leather gloves with a lining. Just something to keep the wind off mainly but I've had them for years and would like to keep them.

Several years ago, I snagged one small corner on one of the thumbs which has grown into a real 45 degree sorta tear that could render them useless. I'm hesistant to use and awl to sew the tear back just because the leather is so thin. I'm afraid it would result in a worse tear.

I've seen something like 'liquid leather' repair goo but I've never had the occasion to use it. Seems like I saw it at Walgreens or something when I was looking for some Shoe Glue.

I'd welcome any suggestions about how to go about repairing the thumb (active bending part of the glove) of this glove. Any experience with the fru fru glue?

any decent contact adheisive will do, i repair my motorcycle gloves the same way.

get another piece of leather approx the same colour and flexibility (or even some buckskin) and glue it as a patch over the area, if you use thin enough leather it will still be flexable enough without compromising the useability of the glove

I would take a small piece of thin leather and glue it (as a patch) with contact cement to the inside of the finger. I’ve fixed gloves and rain pants this way. The contact cement is rubbery, so it doesn’t compromise the fit / comfort. It won’t necessarily hold forever, but it’s easy to re-repair and it is waterproof.

Default glove

100% dick... the only thing i might add is to do a test run first as some glues will cure and not be flexible

doing a close zig zag flat stitch should do the job to close it then a drop of hot glue rubbed into it.

works for me and its surprising how tough the thin leather can be.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's more for sentimental reasons than anything else. I've got plenty of other working type gloves but it seems like these have always been around.
