they could employ ex trawlers to hoover the oceans, the stuff in the sea is bad enough but how much is sunk?

one big time worry is the toxic ships doing the oceans via flags of convenience, there are dozens on ships sailing about carrying stuff so hazzardous that no one will touch it and the company has made enough of a killing to keep the ships at sea eternally.

eventually they will sink or be lost through accident and they reckon a dozen could literally kill the oceans. a bit like red crude, there's billions of barrels of it but it needs a special catalyst to crack it and the only two refineries are in the US which means shipping it accross the atlantic. red crude is rich in cadmium and 1 part per million will destroy all sea life. eventually some idiot will try it.

I have a REPORT.

I have walked the beach of ST. Augustine, FL this morning at Dawn. Went 5 miles up, and 5 miles back.

Trash REPORT....

NONE

I Repeat...

NONE.

Not one scrap. It was beautiful.

A few dead fish, a few dead crabs, and some guy that was passed out on the beach that looked like he might have crabs. Thought he was dead at first, but got close enough to see he was breathing and left him alone.

And NO ROadracer, I didn't take his wallet.

This has always made me angry, how could we be so careless?

Do you guys think there is anything that we could do about this?

All we can do is baby steps. Do more walking. If you live a mile or two from the grocery store, grab a "grandma" cart to haul your groceries back with. Stop and think when you buy stuff. Buy in bulk. If you have the room, grow your own and compost organic waste.

For fuel, I still think bio-diesel is the way to go, if only the vehicles weren't so darned expensive - even an old rabbit goes for a couple grand nowdays around here.

One little thing I do, that some people say "ew-gross", is reuse the same glass. I usually drink tap water filtered with a Pur water filter. I will use the same glass for a couple days before swapping it out. Gross, whatever... the water tastes the same each time, and that is a lot less dish washing detergent and electricity that gets used.
