the biggest error was the recent bio fuels surge. as a waste byproduct of fast food joints then bio diesel was ok, using sugar cane by products to make petrol was also okay.
using palm oil for diesel and corn for petrol is a disaster when the enviromental impact favours the oil based product shamefull as it is to say it. I caught the abc stuff on farmers not releasing corn for domestic use because they could get a high price from the distillers and the shortage of food crop as a result. the devastation to rainforests for the palms was also a disaster.
one thing which might work if they sort it out and are prepared to wait is the diesel tree as its become known - you can tap the sap as its an oil and literally use it straight in the tank. aussie farmers are planting like crazy for domestic use. the strange thing is though if you tap it, tank it and leave for a year goes up in value to around 200 bucks a litre for use in the beauty and food industries.
cant remember the name but its googleable I do believe
