Default People Kill Me

Whenever I go into the woods for a walk and to spend some time alone or I decide to go to that special fishing hole for some fishing, it just burns my a** to see the trash that other people have left behind. Especially when they could have just as easily carried it back out.
They are what I consider stupid people and I can't tolerate stupid. It would take no more energy to carry their trash out than it did to carry it in. They don't care about someone else coming along to use that space after them. They are only interrested in their laziness and their well being for the moment. I usually carry a couple of Walmart bags in a pocket just for this very reason but it makes me mad to know that I have to clean someone elses mess up.
I just hope that the fine people on this website cleans up after themselves whenever they are done outdoors.

So true. This says alot about how the individual views the world and his or her relationship to it.

I just encountered something really similiar to that over the weekend. I went for a walk to get ready for a 2 day hike I'm planning, and I ran into more trash than I've seen there in years.

I really don't understand the mentality. The people go there to drink beer and have a good time. I honestly have no problem with this as long as they pick up after themselves. But of course they don't, and then people who care have to come in and clean up after them. It's a sad situation when people can't enjoy nature without messing it up for everyone else.

I also had a similiar encounter this weekend. I took my two girls camping on friday night at a local state park. Sat morning my oldest wanted to do some hiking in the woods,so we followed a 'Frisbee Golf Course" that made its way through some nice woods areas with hills etc.. At about every other Tee box, there was a water bottle, gatorade bottle, or beer can thrown off to the side. It's Pathetic. I explained to my kids about how irresponsible it was for other people to do that. I had no bags, but tried to pick it up and make a nice pile in the open in hopes that someone may come along checking for trash. I would have carried it out but I was carrying my 3 year old most of the time.

Truly and aggrevating thing!

I agree. It's very sad to see people leave trash around like that. It really gets me smoking to see people toss something on the ground when there's a trashcan not 10 ft. away from them...maybe someone should throw THEM away

Heck, I've even seen trash while I was up on the AT. Granted, most of it was left at shelters. I can understand that if you're out for a long time, it's not always possible to pack out EVERYTHING. At least they leave it in a bag at the shelter, and not scattered along the trail.

Leaving it in a bag is an opportunity for animals to do the scattering for you. I don't know, if you're able to pack it in, you should pack it out. No excuses, JMHO concerning stewardship. I mean really, other than being sloppy lazy, what reason(s) would there be to not pack it out anyways?

is a shame when you do have true wilderness, here its a rare day when you dont find trash especialy when it takes centuries to break down.

I used to like the tales of intrepid explorers venturing deep into mysterious territory only to find a coca cola sign in the native village

I really wish there was some sort of program where kids could learn in school about the outdoors and how to keep it pristine. They could get Bear Grills to go around to schools teaching this. Kids seem to like him.

Its all about the kids seeing their stupid parents and parents circle of stupid friends trash the river or woods. Then they grow up doing it too.

To many people... To many stupid people.
