Default uses?

What are some of the uses of the widgy bar? I've seen them on county comm.

I prefer a nail clipper on my stash. I'm always cutting my fingers on one thing or another. The skin on the edge of your finger nail will get deeper the more you bump it. A nail clipper makes quick work of the "lifted" skin to prevent it snagging. I use it to remove splinters too. it will bite through just enough skin to grip the sliver, then it'll pull right out. Better than digging with a needle.

I want to do a Jute lanyard for my Armageddon, I tried a bugle knot but it gets real tangled in itself. maybe a cobra? Or I'll braid several strand together.

My keychain
That's a lot of stuff on that there key chain!

If you replaced your kubaton with a bunker firesteel tube you could lose the dinky little firesteel and lessen your load.

I have a bunker tube and I assure you it makes the grade.

Yes it is. Depending on the day, I keep certain items on my person and stow the others in a bag close by. And I always drive with only the keys via the Victorinox quick disconnect keychain -- so that I do not tax my ignition.

I'm not quite sure what you mean exactly by "lessen your load."

The Bunker tube alone weighs in at a whopping 6.9 oz. -- that would be like strapping the weight of two additional Kershaw Skyline folding knives to what I have right now!, lol. However, if you're thinking killing-two-birds-with-one-stone "lessening my load," then yeah, I'd agree with you, obviously. But I like the design of this kubotan with the tapering towards the end along with the relief grip.

Nevertheless, I do like the firesteel tubes and I do fully intend on purchasing a couple shortly. And heck, I'm sure that cap would do some damage if employed correctly, wouldn't it?

Thanks for the tip Dick.

Well Kevin, just learned how to do a cobra stitch.

Not nearly as good as yours, but it's a start. Need to shorten it up a bit and make the loop smaller and stronger. Then it'll be ready for the wax, methinks. Thanks for the idea man.

now that looks familiar - nice work. I get a double/triple loop by folding about 5' of jute in half, then doubling it over on itself until I've got a 3" +/- "wad" and two working ends long enough to cobra over the whole thing. don't tie too tight so the wax will work itself in when dunked. to use it I usually pull out one or two passes of the knot w/ tip of my knife, then cut them off along with the newly exposed "innards", unravel it all, fluff etc.

Default New test

ok, now I've got a development on this idea of mine. I made another, using total of 5' of jute to get about 3.5" fob. tied a bit looser this time to allow wax to infiltrate more. dipped once, it looks like my original. dipped again, it starts to have a solid wax "cover" if you will. Instead of a little unravel and cut, like in my original post, I cut a full 1/2-3/4 inch clean off w/ my knife. I then fluffed the ends a bit to expose some jute and hit it with firesteel. It lit, sort of like a candle but slowly spread and grew, engulfing the whole thing and burning a few inches tall for 3 minutes. Now I know I can unravel like my orig post to use only a little bit to get flame; or I can cut off 1/2" to get a few minutes of flame for tougher conditions. Note: the double or triple wax coat makes the longer fob likely to "crack" or crumble if placed in pocket where it can bend. it would be more suitable for a pack zipper or something. my pocket knife fob version is 1"-1.5" long and has not had a problem.
