No problem, Snowshoe. I think the liter bottle IS the small one. Check the website, though.

Swamprat, I use the Pocket Cooker as a backup to my battery powered Zip Stove all the time. It works well, for being basically just a platform for sticks and pinecones with a chimney. Not as quick or efficient as the Zip, since it has no blower, but in a pinch, it's pretty darn good.

MSR pocket rocket stove for the liquid fuel stoves anyhow. It's really tough to gel up the isobutane/propane combination cannisters. Propane stoves i've had gel up on me before and the heaters.

Have always kept mine right inside my pack when not in use when its really cold or now inside my nform pinnacle soloist mess kit.

Check out the pocket rocket you will be impressed at it. Not to mention this thing can throw out some ferocious heat/flame for it's tiny stature. For a larger type cannister stove Northern Lights makes terrific ones with wind screens built in, but a little on the heavy side not something you would want to take camping.

If you get a natural burning stove let me know what you decide on and do a review cause I would like to get one as well sometime.

You can try to build something like this, as well.

I have both propane and duel fuel Coleman stoves. I didn't like dealing with the propane bottles. They are cylindrical (odd shape to pack), large, and they don't work worth a crap in the cold. Also the valves on the tanks some times stick open.
I like the duel fuel stove. It is a lot more compact than the propane one, it works well in the cold (after it pre-heats), and the fuel is a lot cheaper and more abundant.
Gasoline is the most available fuel in the world. Even in the concrete jungle gasoline is available. I have a piston pump with a long hose on it, that I have considered using if SHTF to obtain fuel if all other methods fail.
I would like to get a wood burning stove, I just have to start saving.

I sill have a SVEA 123 that I bought back in the 60's ! It has been a very faithful companion and reliable product, from sea level to 10,000+ Ft in elevation.I have never had to rebuild it. I have ordered a pocket cooker from the backwoodsman website. I'm waiting for it so i can test it out. The day after I ordered it is when I found this site with info about the dakota stove so I will be trying that one out as well. I also use propane stoves but those I limit to vehicle camping.
