I like this one, it is called a second generation Fire Piston and made of clear material so you can see what is going on. FIRE PISTON, FIRE STARTER, SURVIVAL GEAR, ARROWHEADS - eBay (item 280459174805 end time Feb-07-10 11:17:39 PST) I thought I would try it out and also to get used to live coals for when I try out the more primitive friction methods. It is said to lite off punk wood?? That it works better than what they call first generation fire pistons. Since I may use this at higher altitude the more powerful fire piston would be favored. I wonder if there would be any TSA regs against having one in your carry on. Probably wouldn't even be noticed.Page 32,the Backwoodsman, May/June '08 has an article to make your own. It's on my list!

![]() I was thinking more along the lines of < 20 bucks. The principal is simple enough, sealed chamber to compress air with. However; my wife has informed me that they are built from bamboo in the PI at no cost other than time. Thats an even cheaper price. She's going to ask her family to send some examples when she calls them next.
