Better than throwing rocks. Not NEAR as good as a S&W. You can get a 686 4" worth the money now days if you look around. WC

About two years ago I was in the market for a .357 snub nose, and was looking at Charter Arms. But from what I read on some gun review sites they had some quality control issues, I can't say it's a fact but reading some reviews convinced me away from CA and I got a Ruger SP101 instead.

| http://www.charterfirearms.com/ I have a Charter Arms 38 spl, it's an American made revolver, it is a good gun never had any trouble with it and affordable, I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for when it comes to fire arms and cutlery, there are only a few exceptions, Charter Arms is not a Smith&Wesson but its not a cheap piece of crap either.I have not heard of any quality control issues with them which there may have been at one time I don't know but I can tell you that even Smith&Wesson had a recall on a large batch of their mags when they first came out with their sw99 series I know because I own one and it was a concern that I had at the time. so as far as my own experience charter arms makes a decent reliable revolver. and keep in mind if its a revolver, you have the tendency for reliability. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_Arms Last edited by pete1gun; 07-24-2009 at 09:02. |

The Charter Arms aren't as nice and finished as the S&W and S&W has better quality control. I'd probably go for a quality used S&W over a new Charter Arms. Partly because Charter Arms has had some good years and some bad years. From what I have heard lately they are turning out a good product, but several of the last few years they were of questionable quality especially anything with the label Charter Arms 2000. That being said I know people that have some old ones they have had for years and years with no problems, and revolvers are generally speaking very reliable over the long haul. Definitely worse options out there, and it's better than throwing rocks hah |
