I work in the intake office of a state mental institution, which is basically an ER as far as normal hospitals goes. They offer us the flu vaccine every year & now the H1N1. No thanks! I told 'em to give mine to someone else. I've never taken the flu shot & I rarely get sick. If I do get sick, it's maybe a day or 2 tops. I considered getting the H1N1, until the med clinic that administers it actually told me that it being so experimental, they're not sure what side effects may occur. One of my coworkers got the flu shot as well as the H1N1 early on in the season & you guessed it, has now currently out sick with flu-like symptoms.

I personally do not see what the scare is about it "other then the media over hyping it and the news papers blasting it all over creation to sell ratings on top of people just overly worried about something that is far less destructive then the regular influenza every year".

36,000 americans die every year from regular influenza, what they don't tell you is most of those have pre existing conditions and did not pass away due to the flu alone.

Same with the H1N1 2/3rd's of the people who passed away from the swine flu had pre existing conditions and the numbers are dramatically less then regular influenza and most are young children and teenagers.

Also most of the cases with the swine flu are young cases because the older folks are less apt to get it because they grew up raising farm animals etc and there immunity is built up. This is also why there recommending older people to get the nasal vaccination to save the shots for the younger people.

Remember also a lot of people get the flu shot when there already infected or someone close to them is, so there much more apt to get sick. What happens is the person gets the flu shot and is around others infected or is infected themselves. Then they say the shot made them sick.

When in fact the shot actually helped reduce the severity of there symptoms even though they got sick. Which is exactly why I get the regular influenza shot every season. Most of the time I never get sick but if I do the symptoms are less and not as long.

I personally think this is a blown out of proportion thing like the computer and electrical grid breakdowns of the new millenium to sell the people on fear. Which should be a crime in itself because fear mongering among a civilization seems to be the new way to capitalism in our society.

I hope this is useful to anyone.

I heard that too, my gripe is that vaccine was pushed through without all the usual safeguards because of time constraints.

So as with anything done in a hurry, it is possible that something wasn't done 100% right.

If it wasn't done in a hurry would it still be 100% right?

If some undesirable sidefects were found, maybe vaccine would not be allowed to be used.

Surely, luck can be on our side.

As I understand it, seasonal flu vaccines are usually an educated guess on which strain of flu may be coming around that year. So, they aren't always effective. H1N1 seem to mutate quickly so it's hard to ay that if they got the vaccine right it would still be effective by the time the flu hit in your area.
Plus they rushed it so who knows. I just hope that if they got it wrong that there are no long term problems associated with it.
