36,000 americans die every year from regular influenza, what they don't tell you is most of those have pre existing conditions and did not pass away due to the flu alone. Same with the H1N1 2/3rd's of the people who passed away from the swine flu had pre existing conditions and the numbers are dramatically less then regular influenza and most are young children and teenagers. Also most of the cases with the swine flu are young cases because the older folks are less apt to get it because they grew up raising farm animals etc and there immunity is built up. This is also why there recommending older people to get the nasal vaccination to save the shots for the younger people. Remember also a lot of people get the flu shot when there already infected or someone close to them is, so there much more apt to get sick. What happens is the person gets the flu shot and is around others infected or is infected themselves. Then they say the shot made them sick. When in fact the shot actually helped reduce the severity of there symptoms even though they got sick. Which is exactly why I get the regular influenza shot every season. Most of the time I never get sick but if I do the symptoms are less and not as long. I personally think this is a blown out of proportion thing like the computer and electrical grid breakdowns of the new millenium to sell the people on fear. Which should be a crime in itself because fear mongering among a civilization seems to be the new way to capitalism in our society. I hope this is useful to anyone. |

As I understand it, seasonal flu vaccines are usually an educated guess on which strain of flu may be coming around that year. So, they aren't always effective. H1N1 seem to mutate quickly so it's hard to ay that if they got the vaccine right it would still be effective by the time the flu hit in your area. Plus they rushed it so who knows. I just hope that if they got it wrong that there are no long term problems associated with it.
