if its a nail fungus then wash your feet every day, showers count, and apply neat tea tree twice a day for six months.

I've had it for 20 odd years now and its spread. the little toes arent so bad but the big toe is discomforting so I'm trying the long term approach. soak the feet so soften it then trim the growth and nail back as far as you can before starting the oil treatment. my big toe trimmed right back almost to the quick which shows how far the nail bed was effected, its nealy grown out and it loads better so hopefull a few more inches of nail should see it near right.

If you've got a M.D. friend (always good to have around) ask for an antifungal tablet. I think you only have to take two or three and the nail fungus bidness is over.

Also, for the fungus between toes, make sure that you dry the area after showering. Using a hair dryer could work.

nail fungus can be very difficult to shift depending on the type and how deep it goes I've been trying for years. last time it was a varnish that cost $150. fortunately having a decent health service it cost me $80. some fungus can be killed with a one shot pill but the nail one is in areas with poor blood flow so you need to keep it up for weeks so that enough active ingredient can get into the right areas. again though it aint cheap. tea tree is though which is why I'm giving it another go.

fresh garlic applied in a band aid is supposed to work as well, I did try chopped garlic in oil a few years ago which certainly made things better but I lacked the will power to do it for the months required. and my gym shoes smelt like a baguette

athletes foot can be plain or viral, the plain version gives you flakey itchy skin, the viral version is trench/immersion foot can live in your footwear and is the most difficult to shift. if left in the wrong conditions it can ulcerate the foot bed in a matter days and loss of toes isnt uncommon. mostly you get very smelly feet with a thick grey spongy callus.

athletes foot can be treated with a weekly bath of light purple potassium permanganate solution, tea tree or garlic in oil and other menthol preps. immersion foot you need to wash your feet with simple soap several times a day and air dry keeping you feet out of footwear for at least a week. you can tel if you've had it by the red ring around your foot which is a form of scarring. once you've killed it back then you can scrub the feet and treat with other means to kill it off. ideally infected footware needs spraying and storing for 6 months which is what they used to do before offloading boots onto the surplus market.

I allways powdered my feet like crazy because I've allways had sweaty feet, but now I'm steering towards menthol and antiperspirants

the meds to use to get rid of it are the antifungals, diflucan 150mg daily for 6-12 weeks, lamisil tabs 250mg daily for 6-12 weeks. you have to have liver function labs done at baseline and every 2-4 weeks to monitor any increase. These get rid from the inside out. For the topical i try to remove the nail and then use topical meds to as it heals to try to prevent it or treat more at the problem area.

Of course the meds have side effects to consider.

For topicals don't forget to treat your shoes also. Best thing is to get rid of shoes that you wear the most and get a new pair. The fungus can live in the shoes.

I never really understood where the peeing on your feet came from, it makes some sense with urea salts and so on reducing the itching but they used to say pee in the shower which kinda defeats the object as its all washed away before it gets to work.

once its in your body though its nigh impossible to get rid of along with all the other fungi in there like herpes simplex and thrush, you can try to detox yourself a bit. I find if I cut out bread and beer then my nails start to improve and they say cutting simple sugars again gives it less to thrive on.

the best way is to reach a happy medium, when its really bad my big toe is pretty painfull though not as bad a some I've seen so I'm gratefull for that. I've no idea where mine came from but I used to powder my feet daily and I remember exactly when I found my first infected nail as I though I had just got too much powder impacted under the nail. slow growing though and took around 15 years to jump along the foot missing out the middle toe for some strange reason.

Urine is actually sterile so the risk of infection is slim.

Urea and different acids in the urine will actually kill the fungus that causes the infection.
