Also, does anybody know what type of garter snake that was? Around here all the garter snakes are striped long ways.
This particular garter is called the checkered garter. The ones with stripe longways can be a number of the most common being the common garter. But the santa cruz and butler's garter are also striped. My mother was terrified of snakes growing up. I used to get 50 cents a piece for catching them and walking them way off the property and letting them go. That don't sound like much but when your 8 years old sometimes making 10-20.00 a week plus the 5.00 allowance.......You get the picture.

The rattler ron mentioned to exist is called the timber rattler. Just like ron in the 30 plus years of being in the woods of NH I have never seen or heard one or anyone that has for that matter. I did see a timber wolf though first hand right next to my 4wd jaunting down the side of logging road. First and only wolf I have ever seen here that was not a pet or in captivity.

I've been called a sissy more than once for my fear of snakes. I'm 6'2, 260lbs and those little buggars scare the hell out of me. That video even creeped me out a little

Well I had some allowance saved up already so I bought the aquarium, then a week later I forgot to close the lid and it escaped. Mom was scared and jumpy for weeks. Then one day my uncle (mom's brother) comes to the house and gives me a rubber snake to scare mom with. I coiled it up and hid it between my parents bed sheets. That night I heard mom scream like I've never heard her scream before. Apparently the snake came uncoiled in a very life-like fashion when my parents raised the sheets. And of course I was grounded for a while. But I got a good story out of it, so well worth it.
I have a similar story but with a Timber Rattler!! I couldn't find it no matter how hard I looked, and I looked everywhere!! I was living by myself and I wouldn't sit on anything I couldn't see under!! I couldn't let anyone come in for fear of it biting them. Finally after about a week I saw it crawling across the floor and caught it and put it away. Took it to the Serpentarium I had caught it for originally the very next day!!! Boy was I relieved!! It can be really Nerve wracking KNOWING that a LIVE poisonous snake is in your house!! I never brought one inside ever again!!I also learned to LOCK the snake box!! (It wasn't locked very well the first time, just closed and the Catch engaged...must not have "caught")
