Default Wild Blueberries...

I was exploring an area on the other side of the stream that runs by the house and got a nice surprise. Wild blueberries! I've been so busy exploring the logged out area on the other side of the house that I didn't look around much there.

I got a decent amout off the bush and made cobbler. I left these berries because there is/was a poison ivy vine growing up around them and I didn't want to take any chances with touching it or eating it.

My goal all summer was to find and identify edible plants around us so this was a treat.

Growing up in central PA and spending summers in my dad's hunting camp for vacation, the hillside and sun exposed mountain areas were covered with wild blueberries. The kids were forced into servitude to pick the berries and for our efforts we had blueberry pancakes. Oh my!!!!!

Blue berries around here are gone for the most part. Now we have high bush and low bush cranberries that are ready for picking

These are what we call black huckleberries (Vaccinium membranaceum).
We get them at higher elevations here. They are, by far, my favourite blueberry. This year was a bumper crop.

I ordered some cranberry plants to add to my edible landscaping project.

Should be getting some wintergreen plants too. I'm hoping both will spread well.
