Nice pic's I love hawks but I have chickens too so have to keep and eye on them. They like to sit on the night light pole and watch my chickens. I have a young hawk that sits in the little tree on front of the house each morning. I took these pic's through the window. Hope you can see them.

I can't blame them! With some rosemary and garlic, chicken is a gourmet meal!

I suppose there is nothing you can do to safeguard the chicken besides a fully-enclosed area, right? My grandfather had a huge coop all enclosed, but he only had about 25 birds.

a goose is a great guard dog to have in with the chickens, if not we have a couple of very very large Brahma roosters that have a lovely temperament but are vicious when it comes to looking after the flock, the slightly older and larger of the two beat off a fair size golden retriever recently

The smaller of the two brahmas is in the pic that is attached

Yes they are aggresive roo's.I get rid of my roo's every year for the simple fact that they cant play nice and they arent good protectors of the mommas. The goose hears me 200 yards at end of driveway and lets off her obnoxious honk.To bad she attacks my son if let out to free range.Shes going in the pot soon as it warms up.My tolouse goose is a doll tho and a good flock leader.I tried to raise Indian runners this past summer but a fox nabbed them all in one night under a wooden framed cage.

Damn thats a shame about the runners, we had 3 until recently when 2 went into the oven, they were getting far too boisterous with the other ducks

it's funny that you say about the goose attacking your son, I was just reading an email from one of my friends in Austria who is having to get rid of her chickens because if they are out they try and herd her places and attack her if she tries to go elsewhere

Lol thats funny, only prob ive had with chickens is Roosters.Ten of the last 12 have been axed, others given away. The goose is nasty tho,she is a white china and everyday i throw things at her because she has one of the ducks pinned down in the kiddie pool drowning her.I was really looking foward to the indian runners.i raised them in the basment for 3 months, they were my babies

Do hawks attack people? I ask because this past summer I was in my front yard doing yard work and suddenly this big hawk, about a 8 to 10 foot wingspan, came diving down and nearly swooped onto my head! I wasn't sure if it was actually trying to attack me or if it was diving at something near me and pulled back up when it realized I was in its way of getting at whatever it may have been trying to get at. I saw nothing near me it could have been going after, though, and there weren't any trees in my yard that I would think would be nearly high enough for a hawk's nest. Maybe it saw its reflection on my bald and sweaty dome? I've been a bit concerned about the hawks here since that day, as you can imagine.
