Question Long term storage about rice

I'm about to get a few sacks of rice. I was wondering how would I store it for long-term. For more than an year or two and still keep it usable.

I read a way to store wheat by using dry ice. Can something similar be done with rice? And what about beans / peas?

Please suggest some ideas.

My wife knows more about rice than anyone I know. I just asked her and she said to store it dry in an air-tight container and it should keep for roughly a year, possibly a little longer.

20 litre bucket, mylar bag, oxygen absorber and you can store rice for years.

There are several posts here that discuss long term storage of grains and beans. This is one of them
Oxygen and Long-Term Food Storage

If you can store it in the sealed mylar bag woth oxygen absorbers it will last indefinitely.

Alan, you can store it so it will stay fresh for years. There are specific ways to store it which are mentioned in the Food section.

Default Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'm reading the two pages mentioned and nice to know that rice can stay up to an year in air-tight containers.

Someone just told me that dry ice can also keep rice good for over many years, if I put in rice and seal the container lid after the ice evaporates.

I'll get some dry ice if it isn't too costly but will try the other options mentioned too. I'd be using waste buckets for storing the rice but will get some air-tight containers later when I earn better, in a few months.

Would steel containers be better, even if costly? At least they will save the grains from fire / quakes to some extent.

most people use the plastic buckets because they are food grade and usually easy to get hold of.

if you use a plastic bucket with a mylar bag liner and oxygen absorber you can store rice, beans and pulses (all dried) for years.

as long as you keep moisture out they will be fine

If dry ice is hard to get you could buy oxygen absorbers. You get a lot for $12 US the ones you don't use will need to be put in an airtight container immediately though.

I would not use a metal bucket for food storage unless you also sealed the food in a mylar bag. I don't think you could get one airtight and also I would be concerned about rust.
