the label says best before and thats what it means, I've had loads of stuff which should have been out of date in a civvy context. if the same powerbar was in an mre then it would have a few more years to go yet.

Been there, seen this, done that !! With things like that - I take the position that if the bar is not obvioulsy growing some form of life on it's surface, or not trying to walk away from me when I grab for it - it is ok to eat. Lets face it, with the amount of preservatives and sealing, some of this stuff is bomb proof !

I just bought 5 dozen energy bars from Emergency Essentials - Be Prepared Emergency Preparedness Food Storage, and they have a 5 year shelf life at least.
