A rock. You have to have somewhere to be in order to survive for any length of time

HEY!!! I think you're onto something! I guess you DO survive off of shelter most definitely, and if it can't be made out of anything that was alive, I guess rock or something artificial would be the next best conclusion, but I digress...

I think we realize what this question probably was really designed for, and perhaps with even us, it has served its purpose!

Sunlight, it's required for your body to make vitamin d.............without it is slow death.

There you have it! Water and sunlight, the giver and taker of life.

also the sun is the main part of photosynthisis. The third part of the triangle is air(plants don't make air but simply part of the recycle chain that is life). of course the first part of the triangle is water.

Personally I think the teacher is just trying to get them to think. Personally I think it's sunlight. You need vitamin D to live and it's not organic. Plants also use it, which gives off oxygen so we can breathe. So the sun helps us there again. Also, the plants give us food for us (which we need) and to animals, which we eat. So the sun seems like the most logical answer to me.

The answer has to be Charlton Heston! He was a cyborg, right? How else could he part the Red Sea AND win a chariot race? I would definitely bring him along if I was stranded on a desert island

In all honesty, though, the answer is probably water. Since it's a question intended for a 4th grader to answer, I don't think they'll be expecting anything beyond water. And you can survive on water alone for 2-3 weeks. Not happily, but still...
