yea gettin hit by a vehicle is a b*tch. Glad to hear you're ok. Back when I was 17 I got side-swiped by a little old lady in a chevy corsica two days after christmas. her passenger side mirror shattered as it gave me the worst ass slap you could ever imagine and my leg was kinda messed up. it put a spin on me like a top and i fell to the ground. Sore for a few days but no permanent damage. 9 times outta 10 you're involved in an accident due to someone else's negligence rather than your own. keep your eyes peeled.

Well, I'm glad you are OK. It's been a few hours, you're still OK aren't you? Cause you'll be sore. ![]() If you have your receipt for the bike you can just show it to him and tell him about your paint job. If he is smart he will want to settle up with you and if he offers you a little something extra you should take it. You will not be taking advantage of the situation. You will be saving his butt by not having a police report and notifying his insurance which could really cost him in the long run. Also, you never know when an injury might act up. For everyone. In any kind of accident you need to remember to get all the information you can including names of witnesses. And don't try to reassure everyone that you are fine. Because the next day you may not be. Trust me on that!!!!!

get a rocket launcher. oh, sorry, that would be terroristic, um...... how about lots of flashing lights and a siren? might look silly, but hey, better than being road pizza. i learned to be careful of bicyclists and motorcyclists because i used to ride motorcycles all the time. i know how people do not pay attention.

Glad to hear (read) you're OK LaRemnant. I also regularly ride my bike (for exercise). I have to go through city traffic to get to a bike trail. I know exactly what you mean about drivers not paying much attention. When I first started riding regularly I was ignorant enough to assume I could trust the drivers looking out for me (since I supposedly have the right-of-way). Wrong! It didn't take long to realize after a couple near-misses myself. Now, whenever I'm in a situation where I could be in conflict with a vehicle, I make sure I make eye-contact with the driver. If I don't make eye-contact then I'll either wait or ride behind the car to get by. Most drivers are looking out to pull into traffic, make a turn, or otherwise make sure they can merge with traffic. Most drivers won't look to see if pedestrians or cyclists are around. What's worse is they're also on the damn cell phone or doing something else while driving. Even at the last minute, if they see me they might stop and let me pass. It's hard to gauge sometimes as some drivers are total buttholes obviously ignoring me and others wanna roll the red carpet out for ya (refusing to move til I pass). If I don't have a good feeling of a driver and they're waving me on and I'm waving them on, then I'll take my hands off the handlebars, lean back, cross my arms, and look away making it obvious I'm not gonna move so they'll go and get outta my way (as I didn't trust 'em for one reason or another). I actually like riding in such situations as it does keep my senses up (alertness). I used to ride a stationary bike for exercise and recognized how my senses dulled because I was always in a safe and secure room in my house (with my guard down). As a driver myself and knowing what it's like on both sides (a driver & cyclist) I'm definitely more mindful of cyclists and pedestrians. Oh, and it's not against the law where I live to ride bicycles on sidewalks. If it is, I haven't been caught yet, ha ha.

LaRemnant, you can still call the police and should do so right away. They will track the guy down with the license number, and then you can alert your insurance company also. If you damaged his truck it will still be there to prove it. You usually have 24 hours to report an accident (depends on state) if there are no injuries. You are now just butting up against that time frame. Also, internal injuries to you could still show up. Call the police to track him down. Good luck and I am so sorry this happened to you. As a pedestrian, I am constantly being threatened by cars in Chicago who just have to run that red, or turn before it is their turn. I have hit cabs with my umbrella to make them stop before they hit me. SG

I can't believe how much I have forgotten in how to track people down! Sheesh, I used to have a couple different programs that found out all kinds of stuff but threw them away a couple years ago when I developed the enlarged lymphnode in my lung. Oh well, a Private Investigator is going to look him up for me (for a small, nominal fee of $50), and I will tell the guy to split the fee with me, IF he doesn't go out of his way to contact me first (since it was BOTH of our responsibility to get ALL contact info). It is only fair considering yeah, if I did go the traditional route, yes, I would have gotten a new bike more than likely (I still have my reciept! ) but his insurance would have went up considerably I am sure and personally I wouldn't want to do that. Especially since I am totally okay.Perhaps people will think I am being too nice. Oh well... In the end, I KNOW that it will come out for the best, whether or not he tries to weasle out, or actually is a man of his word and honors that he will either pay to get my bike fixed or just buy me a new one. ![]() Thanks for everybody pulling for me. NOW, I want everybody who's reading this right NOW, to put their hand in front of the screen, say OUT LOUD, "bike be FIXED" and wiggle your fingers at my handle. LOL ... I mean it!!!! Heheheheh ThanX
