So I was riding my bike to work today, and there is this one corner where I ALWAYS see people drive up over the cross walk lines, without even looking to their right... they ALWAYS look to the left for oncoming cars, and then just drive on without even a peek to see if someone walked in front of them.

So... I was coming to the corner, and I see this guy drive up in a big truck, looking left for cars... I don't know why I did it, but I ASSUMED he would look. NOPE. Right before I KNEW he was going to start driving, I yelled out loudly but it was too late. I was just coming off the sidewalk and had the nose of my front tire in front of him and he floored it. I put a big dent in his front corner with my body and my bike is wreaked. He knocked my butt all the way clear back on the sidewalk. When I got back up, I just couldn't believe I had just been hit by a damn truck! AND LIVED!

I was in a state of shock at first... For some reason, I didn't think to call the police to get it documented. And for some reason, I didn't get his phone number OR his insurance company info! I did however get his full name and address (looked at his driving license) and wrote that down along with his license plate number.

I remember feeling relieved a bit, because he said he would like to help me out anyway he can after he looked at my bike, which THANK GOD, somehow took most of the force. Later, I almost laughed recalling his facial expression when I told him my bike was still new (had it only about 4 months) and it cost over $300, because after I said that, he looked at it, and since I spray painted it OD green, it looked like crap, or I found it at the dump LOL He scratched his head but didn't say anything LOL I wonder what he would have felt/thought if I stayed on the ground and said I couldn't get up I could probably be rich!!! joke

Other than my bike's damage and being embarrassed as all these people asked me if I was okay after they saw me do a free standing face plant on his hood , was I had a decent sized scrape on my right shin. Nothing else whatsoever!

SO... PLEASE, after you stop in front of a cross walk, make sure you REALLLLLY pay attention, and realize that one absentminded overlooking could really kill someone, or severely hurt them (along with a kid or dog they may be walking with), and you might even get some jail time or INSANELY expensive court fees considering that since pedestrians have the right of way, you will be held accountable for negligence, and/or manslaughter.

Next time, I will not put my future health at risk in the hopes that someone will actually do what they're supposed to do. What was I thinking????

It's a reminder to both cyclists and people driving to pay attention and try to make eye contact with each other!

ps: Correct me if I'm wrong...but you were illegally riding your bike on the sidewalk?

I was riding my bike on the sidewalk, yes, but the point of the matter is, I was on the cross walk when I got hit.

I could ride in the designated bike lane, wear a neon vest and use all those retarded hand signals that nobody really even understands anyways, and still get hit by a moron...

Ohhh... I will find him though, that's for sure.

I hope he is upstanding with his word, because it would suck if he tries to weasle out of it. I thought that I could easily seek revenge in numerous, imaginative ways once I find him, but I am having second thoughts if he decides to screw me...

In the past, quite a few times, whenever someone screwed me, I would do nothing except focus on them and go over in my mind that SOMETHING will come of it, it usually did. I am talking about double car wrecks in one week, loss of money, tickets being given with the EXACT amount that was owed to me, etc.

Weird stuff, so perhaps the peaceful way is better in the long run, as long as I don't overtly wish them harm... I just focus on the knowing that they will (hopefully) experience what they put me through, in some way, shape or form.

LaRem, is that the FIRST time you have almost been creamed on your bike by a vehicle? I seem to remember a post which I can't seem to track down now of a member here having a close call being hit by a car or truck on their bike, back oooohhhh, I'd say beginning of the year? Maybe earlier? I just can't seem to track that post down, and I can't recall who the member was?

However, I am glad to hear you are ok, and no harm was done. You really have to be extremely careful out there because no one ELSE is! Bikes and motorcycles get hit all the time by incompetent or distracted drivers.
