I'm still working on the contents of my small kit. Condor Tear Away EMT pouch. That's a great pack!!
My pack is a little heavy when it's all said and done... about 45lb in total. If I am just going out for a weekend, I remove many items, less food, less clothes. But if I have to bug out, add the 9mm and home defender 12g. the dog carries most of the rounds but I would add a few to my pack. Also if I am bugging, I will add my 26" camp axe cause I may find a place to bunker for a bit and cutting larger logs for a build may be needed. So full out, I would carry about 65lb. Sounds like a lot but it's all you have for well... forever. I am 6'4" tall and I weigh 240lb. I worked as a bag slinger loading 65lb bags in a shipping container for 5 years. So I can carry 65lb on my back for 10 miles a day with no problems. Although the farthest I have gone with a full pack is 16miles in 12 hours.

I am a firm believer in going out with your full pack atleast once a week for a few miles no matter what the wheather. After all, if SHTF in the middle of a thunderstorm your still going to have to go. Better to know what your going to have to face.

Did you ever consider a small waterproof bag with a few changes of underwear and socks. Could make all the difference to feeling better about yourself. Need to take care of the person as well as the body !
My cloths bag has 2 fresh changes of Boxer briefs and 3 changes of socks in Zipplocks. Also a clean shirt, clean pants, clean thermals, and a camo vest. all stuffed into that little water proof bag. and yes, clean undies can make or break your will to go on! I like to warm them up by the fire so they feel like they are fresh from the dryer... lol

thanks! When building a BOB I like to go as cheap as I can but the bag could make the dif between 5 miles and 10 miles a day hike. plus with a better bag I can carry more wieght without my back hurting. I also have an Alice pack, but the osprey is SOOOOOO much easier on the back.

Thanks, and I can drop down to a "just the guts" bag fast. That would be :
B. Clothing bag (water proof)
C. Sleeping bag
H. Mess Kit
M. Whistle / thermometer / compass
R. Tinder Box (Altoid tin)
T. Firesteel.com Fire steel
Y. Bush knife set

But I would be a lot more comfortable if I didn't have to leave anything behind.

Very cool setup and as mentioned very well thought out!

I just got one of those U-Dig-It trowels the other day, very solid.
