Default Boots in SHTF type situation

Hey everybody,

I was thinking( that does happen occasionally) but I read this forum every day and no one has mentioned footwear of any kind! Boots( My Special Forces Issued Danners are my favorites, Gore-tex with heal supports(anti punji stick) and very nice) But everyone should have a few pairs of shoes and socks extra. I have four pairs of boots and 3 years of socks in heavy use scenario. Any survival situation a good pair of walking boots or shoes are important if you can not walk you will not live long! I would estimate that I could walk thousands of miles if I had to!

Shawn, great idea. As a former Marine from twenty years ago, I can say, those boots sucked shit. I have a great pair of boots made by Dan Post. I got them through the Sportsman's Guide (I should get money from them for how much I pimp them), they are John Deere work boots. Check them out, best boots I'va had in twenty years, no breaking in, nothing. waterproof, leather all, vibram sole, damn nice, and less than a hundred bucks. What more can we ask for? I'll look for the link for you.

Sorry, I went and checked, they don't have them. Irish Setter is made by Red Wing, I own a pair of them, but stck with leather, the fabric doesn't last. I live on a ranch, wear them every day, I beat the shit out of my boots. I know the value of a good pair of boots.

Don't mean to change the angle of the thread. But a friend of mine that drove jets for UPS until he retired told me to wear, if possible, heavy soled shoes, or over the ankle hikers or boots when flying.

In a crash he said the ability to keep you shoes on in a crash, then walk or run across sharp, jagged, or hot metal may save your life.

Never thought about it until he brought it up.

Mine would be my Merrell hikers. They're like wearing slippers. Love 'em.

I have a couple pairs of boots that I really like. One is a pair of workboots, Terra Lights, and those are nice and comfy really are lightweight. I also bought a pair of boots from Cabelas a couple years back that I normally wear when out in the woods. Comfortable, rugged and full of support. I also have a couple pairs of boots from the military, but I find that they are hard on my feet, so I don't wear them anymore. Of course for this time of year (snow, snow & more snow) I have winter boots with heavy felt liners.

Your feet are your #1 most important survival tool. If you can't walk, you will die.

Only Big Names will go on my feet. Names like.....

Danner

Merrell

Russell

Ariat

and Rocky

Shawn!

I'm so glad you opened this thread! I've been having the same thought lately...footwear!

I don't know about the rest of you, but socks are also a big issue for me. I've stockpiled plenty of extra pairs -- both cotton and wool blend.

For years, the only "shoes" I've worn have been "Chukka" or "Hiking" style boots, and let me tell you what NOT to buy: Wolverine "Durashocks!"

I've had 3 pairs of Wolverine boots with their much-touted "Durashock" soles. They're pretty darned comfortable; BUT, they don't last. Both soles, on all three pairs, split clean in half (side to side) all the way through to the insole, and they did this in between just 6 and 9 months...AND THE STINKIN' THINGS ARE EXPENSIVE! I tried repairing the split soles with "Shoe Goo," but the repair only lasted a few days.

Had to go check and see what brands I had. The boots I got from Cabelas are Coleman. I've had them for about 4 years now and are still in very good shape. My other main boots are Daffo and I have had them for 5 years, and again are in very good shape. Not sure where I put my Terra Lites... will have to look for them come spring time. These boots do get a lot of wear as well as I do a lot of bowhunting. Spring bear season will be upon me befor eI know it once the snow melts.

Thumbs up Rockys!

I don't even go out in the yard without my Rocky knee-high snake boots! Waterproof, snakeproof, briarproof, they 'breathe'...I love 'em! Got a pair for the Little Mama, too!

Thats a good question.Id grab my snake boots here in Florida. They have no insulation so in winter it might be tough.I do have a pair of Retain overboots that fold up and do well to keep feet warm.
