My fishing kit is; 10 lb test mono , assorted sizes of hooks, some small split shot, A few crappie jigs,a dozen wet flies of various patterns. I can use a cut pole or tie to branches if need be. The flies are trout patterns as that is what we mostly have in the Mt. streams here in the pacific northwest. The line I carry is wound onto an empty teflon tape spool, I don't know how much is on there but its alot, my hooks, etc. are kept in a 35mm film container. I also have a larger container with larger size tackle including treble hooks for a marine coast environment.

You can also make a fishing kit from pvc that you can cast, all you need is an 8" peice of 1" pvc, a 1 cap, and a 3/4" threaded plug. Put the plug in one end of the pvc, the pulg grabs the inside of the tube very tightly so no glue is needed. Then drill a 3/16" hole in the cap for a lanyard. You can also put a small peice of inner tube on the pvc for a grip too. Spool some line on about 2" from the top of the pvc, fill with tackle and your done. Now you have a self-contained fishing kit that you can cast and that will hold all of your tackle. The tackle i have in my fishing kit 10 - #6 Hooks 10 - #8 Hooks 5 - #10 Hooks 30 - 3/0 Slit Shot Sinkers (Removable) 1 - Small Stick Bobber 1 - Midium Stick Boober 1 - Small Stierfoam Bobber 4 - 1/16 oz. Jig Heads (2 Bright Colors, and 2 Darker Colors) 2 - 1/16 oz. Rooter Tails (1 Bright Color, and 1 Natural Color) 1 - Small Plug (Natural Color) 1 - Sewing Bobbin spooled w/ 10 lb test FireLine Spooled on my kit 100' of 10 lb test FireLine For bigger tackle i have made a drop line kit, for this i have a spool of 160 lb test drop line with a sinker bag that holds all of my tackle. In this kit i have four 1 oz. egg sinkers, four 4/0 circle hooks, and four #5 barrel swivels. I have rolled the bag up and put it in the center of the drop line spool, i have taken two good sized corks and put a small cotter pin in each of them so i can use the corks for bobbers if i wanted too. With the tackle in the center of spool i put a cork on each end of the spool so now i have self-contained drop line kit as well. Last edited by Woodland Survivalist; 11-07-2009 at 20:39. |

personally i'd forget all the other stuff and just get a seine net, why take chances when you can be sure to get something worth eating ?

My fishing kit contains two ready made trot lines attached to tent pegs and when not in use the lines are wrapped around the pegs so they don't get tangled. I also have a castnet which can give me an assort of shrimp, fish and crabs when I cast.

this is what i carry 5 small (panfish size) hooks 5 medium(catfish, bass, whatever bites) hooks 50 ft of spiderwire (65lb test in 15lb dia.) 3 1/2oz egg sinkers 3 1oz bank sinkers small baggie with about 15 split shot bottle cork cut in two pieces for bobbers all fits into an altoids tin. for trot lines i use the inner core of a peice of paracord, with a bank sinker and a medium hook. i keep several kits like this as i like to fish a lot! and i often find myself at the lake and deciding to wet a hook. bait is always easy to find if you know where to look. my favorite for panfish is a piece of beef stick from a slim jim( keep a few on hand for emergency snacking lol).
