Cool story on the kill.......I was hunting from a natural groundblind my buddy and I made with the wood from a couple trees we had to fell last spring. They were dead and leaning out into the field, so we dropped them before the farmer planted to have them out of the way. We stacked up some of the lumber in front of the biggest stump from the 2, and my buddy used his chainsaw to cut out a seat with a back from the stump. So Saturday, opening morning of Indiana`s firearms season, I was posted in the natural blind with my Winchester 94 in .44 mag. We heard quite a bit of shooting right at legal shooting time, but I saw nothing until just before 9:00 am, I saw a buck chasing a doe across the picked beanfield in front of me. They we a bit too far out, and moving way too fast to shoot at, so I simply enjoyed the show. It wasn`t a minute later, I heard something coming from behind me and from the east......it was the doe, leading the buck directly by me! They`re only 6 yards away, and act like I`m not even there. The doe is running, and all the buck can see and smell is that hot doe. She leads him by me headed west, then leads him back by me going back east. Finally, as he was quartering away from me headed east, I got the shot off at about 15 yards! He bucked and started to bolt, but he didn`t go another 10 yards before he crashed and rolled down the ravine to the lower field edge. When I gutted him, I saw that I got a lung, and took out nearly a whole third of the heart, that Hornady LeverRevolution in .44 mag did a heck of a job. It was an exciting experience, as I`ve never been on the ground like that as a buck was chasing a doe around near me.
