Yeah have always been the same way. My knives get beat on so does all my gear its how I have always been. I personally cannot justify spending lots of money for something to look at. But I respect people who like to keep collectors in cases because they are so darn pretty...........entrancing again.......want to batony batony...choppy choppy.....kissy kissy...huggy huggy.....i'll shut up now.

"What is knife collecting good for?"

Every knife has its own unique aesthetic style, functional form, and physical-material composition. Every knife smith has their own unique purpose, philosophy, and artistic-craftmanship touch.

Every time a collector adds a new knife to his or her collection, he or she learns something new about knives, knife making, or about the knife-smithing community. As a knife collection grows, the collector further refines his or her knowledge of knife lore and technology, honing the subtle, soft skills of discernment/discrimination, purpose-based selection, knife-style classification, and quality evaluation.

Blunt striking tools are probably the oldest form of tool ever used by man -- a simple rock or stick used for pounding, beating, or striking.

The second oldest tools used by man, and the first tools that required conscious material modification and attention to form and structure, had to be edged cutting tools -- knives, regardless how primitive they may have been. Therefore, knives are primal and iconic. They represent the oldest and most useful of all human technologies. Being primal and iconic, knives have earned a special appreciation in the human heart and mind that crosses the boundaries of all cultures. This universal appreciation for our most fundamental technology has led to it being elevated to an art form. Knife making is not just a trade...not just a craft or skill...it has become an artistic expression that is appreciated by sophisticated and intelligent people around the globe.

We've asked this question here many times...If you could only take one item with you into the wilderness, what would it be? Universally, the answer is, "A good knife." What kind of "collection hobby" could possibly make more sense than KNIFE COLLECTING???

C'mon gang! Let's add to this! Let's create a knife collectors' manifesto! Then, when someone asks, "What good is knife collecting," we can hit them with this manifesto and show them the light. We can turn them all into converts...NOT addicts!!!...CONVERTS to the nobility of knife collecting!!!

Sell them - that is sacrilege!!

I have used, abused and lost (as best I can remember I have lost about 5 knives over the last 44 years) but I have never sold a knife. I don't want all the knives - just the ones that look interesting or useful.

Here are two reasons 1st I love knives and and axes and 2nd in the past couple of weeks I have sold 14 knives out of my collection to purchase a new eotech sight and a new tactical boom stick plus upgrades with no cash out of my pocket. I did this with out selling any of my favorites either, no randalls or vintage cold steel or pre 1976 buck knives where harmed in this transaction. Oh I did buy a new benchmade 690 at the same time I just cant help my self.
Same reason I collect flashlights and rifles cuz I love them!
