    great question. I'd say from my view the most important are the ones I use the most for day to day stuff: bowline for loops, round turn & two half hitch (I use this anywhere someone else might use a clove hitch), taught-line hitch (guy lines), double sheet bend for tying two ends together, and the truckers hitch (tying stuff down tightly). of course lashings and whippings for tying stuff together/shelter building are important, but not necessarily "knots" per se
