most sets eventually wear in especially if you use a stiff cord like purlon or paracord, I preffered bits of boot lace as it was floppy so to speak

I concur, but just wanted to add that I have always found it much easier to just count on the one foot. Left or right doesn’t matter. Mine is 32 lefts per 100m. So I have to start on my right.

agreed; the numbers I gave are for "double steps" just like yours (that how I define a pace).
