4 pack of em from Sportsman's Guide for 7.97. Works out to 1.99 ea.

If I am carrying only a small EDC pack, that is a good choice. If you have BDU cargo pockets or a fanny pack, an emergency bag is better.

$16 bucks from Adventure Medical, or possibly less at your local sporting goods store. Heck of a good thing if you are caught out in bad conditions and have to bivy for the night.

Product Emergency Bivvy

CW, are those emergency bags reusable? Looks like a solid product for a minimalist set up.

The bags are reusable, and compact back to about the same size they come in, as you see in their site pic. The blankets from SG are just the cheapy one-offs, but are less expensive than the ones GlenMayo had cited.

In the big BOB, I have the full size 2.0 bivy, but in my waistpack I only have the small one I linked. It has worked well on a number of occasions, is soft and quiet, and keeps you VERY warm. It's also weatherproof, so you can use it even in bad weather if you need to.

The bags are as re-usable as any space blanket. I like them since you can crawl into it instead of trying to stay wrapped up. I carry a 2.0 bivy when I have a daypack but if I just have my fanny pack or pockets the smaller bag works great. I carry one with my 2.0 to use as an extra ground cloth/cover.

Large space blankets with durability are something to look for. Who doesn't like to have extra material to totally wrap yourself in, which is where durability comes in. Too flimsy and they may tear. Better to invest in a good one or a few and keep them handy. The one I have is lined with flannel.

I have the same red on silver blanket but treat it more like a mini tarp. I also carry 2 of the foil type but theyre more for an emergency situation since they swell up once opened.

Have a Thermos brand space blanket in my heavy pack also. The foil type stay in the car or the day pack. I am sure everyone here knows that putting a foil type in your sleep bag adds a lot of heat or using it as a inner liner in anything helps a bunch. But putting one under your outerwear or poncho cuts your thermal signature by a bunch a whole bunch. I took a foil type out of the package about a year ago,, NOW this thing was old I mean OLLLLD and had lived in my pack getting abused for years. When the package was opened I had many, many shinny Mylar strips again this was the Space Brand by Thermos foil type. HOW OLD WAS IT! I bought it in the BX at McChord AFB in 1977 So some tips and check those foil blankets ever now in then it may not hurt to check those heavy weights every now and then also to see if they are not sticking together.

I'm planning on using this as a tarp shelter for an upcoming camping trip. Has anyone used these in the past? Any pros or cons you wish to share?
