Default the perfect commune

The way I see it, all us true "rednecks" make up the perfect commune already. The trick when the SHTF is going to be avoiding the truly "sorry" living among us who'll want to cozy up.

For all you boys and girls who are not from around here, "sorry" is about the worst thing you can call somebody in the South. Its about three or four notches below "white trash". I can't think of anything lower. "Sorry' has nothing to do with wealth, social status or race. Its all about not taking care of your responsibilities.

The sorriest SOB I know is a cousin of mine from northside Atlanta. He went to Georgia Tech. Now he drives a big black BMW and kicks back $500K a year.... at least according to his tacky wife Mary Catherine, a woman from near exit 67 in New Jersey.

I won't get into the details of why they are "sorry". But rest assured we won't allow them into our perfect commune.

your kidding right? have you ever been to baxter state park? it is the size of CONNECTICUT! and it is ALMOST DEOVID OF HUMAN HABITATION!!!! are you in the south of maine or in the north? move at tad north and you will have all the land you need. i was camping in maine once and according to our map it was 300 MILES to the nearest town ship (a little village of less than 500 people).
and NEVER call any of the mainers i know a redneck. they have more guns then i have relatives (i am italian and i have about 30 some odd first and second cousins.) they are hard working polite kind and decent folk. mainers are not rednecks. country folk yes. yankees, yes. rednecks no.

Since we are tossing around the title "Redneck". I just wonder how many know how this term came to be?

You see there were some miners that were being done wrong by the folks that owned the mines. The miners got together and decided that they weren't having it anymore, and to show their solidarity they all wore RED bandanas around their necks. Anyway after some fighting and killings(Even against the US Army) They won the rights they were after. These miners were from different ethnic groups and races. But they stuck together for what was right. With a history like that you can call me a Redneck anytime and I'll just smile real proud like!! It's a good thing that has become twisted by some that misunderstood these small town and backwoods folks.

I have to agree with Taint Right, Having been born and raised in S.Ga. There is nothing worse than being called "sorry". I believe if anyone had any doubts as to the truth about that, all they would have to have it proved to them would have been to see my Mama's face when she called someone that(which wasn't very often, But when she did....).

The Blair Mountain Coal Wars and the Rednecks? It is a stirring, and in this day and age of rebellion against a government gone mad, very timely, story about average working people being forced to do some terrible things to keep their families fed and their way of life intact against greedy corporations, brutal "private security" like the Pinkertons, and all out war with the ACTUAL armed forces of the country they lived in and loved on the tenuous grounds of "national security". There are some decent books on the subject, and all are worth a read. My favorite is this one:

Amazon.com: Bloodletting in Appalachia: The Story of West Virginia's Four Major Mine Wars and Other Thrilling Incidents of Its Coal Fields (9780870120411): Howard Burton Lee: Books

Tells about many of the coal strikes and miner uprisings during that timeframe, and has a pretty good approach to what things led up to the events and how it has shaped that area of the country since then. They made a decent enough movie out of the story, called Matewan (one of the towns in the center of the WV coal mine incident) Amazon.com: Matewan: Jace Alexander, Tom Carlin, Gordon Clapp, Chris Cooper, Joe Grifasi, Bob Gunton, Jo Henderson, Ken Jenkins, James Earl Jones, Gary McCleery, Mary McDonnell, Nancy Mette, Josh Mostel, Will Oldham, Michael B. Preston, Maggie Renzi, that wasn't bad, but it hardly told the whole story. It's worth watching though, and it will get any patriot's blood boiling about how the government can work against the average citizen to help big business and their interests. Rednecks should be proud to wear that badge of honor, since it is paid for with the blood of hard working, loyal Americans who stood together for what was right, and died at the hands of their own government because of it.
