I've been using the Hennessey hammock for about 5 yrs now.It is especially comfy in the humid climates.
I did my test-run at Hunting Island State park near Beaufort, SC.It would be a downpour every night, the hennessey performed excellent-great airflow to keep from being uncomfortable.I put a rug on the ground underneath the hammock to keep the area clean.
I haven't tried the other brands like Clark but I think they would be just as nice

Question for hammock fans out there: why do you like it better than a tent?

I have a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 tent that is less weight than a Hennessey, smaller packed dimensions, and sets up in a few minutes without the need to anchor to any trees. Cost is slightly higher.

I live in a pretty arid climate, so rain and ground water are not major concerns...if I were in a swampy area or really heavy rains, a hammock may be preferable over any ground tent.

I'd be willing to give a hammock a try if I thought there was some additional advantage(s). Any thoughts?

I like mine (MOSQUITO HAMMOCK - A jungle hammock with mosquito net for camping, backpacking, expedition, climbing, rain-proof, mosquito-proof, light-weight, portable, long-lasting, best value for money, satisfaction guaranteed!) because:
• You don’t need flat ground
• It will set up on the ground
• Keeps gear clean (no muddy ground)
• Keeps most creepy crawlers off
• Very light and compact
• Nice rocking action
• Nice fresh air
• Can take a leak without getting up (girls need this Whiz Freedom Urinating Aid - Mountain Equipment Co-op)
I don’t like mine because:
• Too breezy for sub-zero temperatures
• Need sturdy trees the right distance apart
• Can’t bring much in with you.

Gee for a second there I thought the site had been highjacked. Swingers are something else altogether in NZ and Oz. Love the Hennessey but really $$$$.

The main benefits for using a hammock versus a tent are weight and comfort. I can now camp out without back or shoulder pain when using a hammock and my hammock setup is lighter than tents I’ve carried as well. I have 2 hammocks, a Claytor Jungle Hammock and a Warbonnet Blackbird. Both can be used in any weather with great results. I would recommend checking out Hammock Forums : Your Number One Hammock Community - Hammock Camping for all the information you need.
