Would you share the experience you have with which models and how you would rate them?
Hunter, petzl tactikka. Kick a$$ headlamp and has a boost mode that can last up to 20 seconds (so it doesnt burn out bulb or heat up to much) and its camoflauge. You can also buy a lens set for it so you can use to read maps, preserve night vision, follow game blood trails, etc.

Uses 3AAA is liteweight and produces a ton of light for a small headlamp anyways.

Hope this was useful.

The one on the left is a cheap Everready with incandesat bulb. I use it mainly when I am working under a house. Battery life is poor (3 -AAA's) - maybe a couple of hours. It is good for what I need when treating in a crawlspace.

The second from left is an inexpensive Eveready LED. Smaller, lighter and good battery life maybe 50 hours. The on/off switch can easily be bumped.

Moving to the right is a Princeton Tec Fuel - my favorite. Very light, very long battery life - probably in the 100 hour range.

Finishing off the top row is a Streamlight. On high, it is extremely bright with about an hour of batter life. It has a medium and low setting. On low - maybe six hours. It's a good light when I inspect attics and need to be hands free.

The one in the second row is an LED Lenser. Batteries are worn on the back of the head strap. Very bright. Very good burn time. This one has a very focused beam.

Thanks for the great info and advice AP and Crashdive. I`ll look into several of these models, as I love them for assending a ladderstand in the pitch black of early morning, or after shooting hours.

Another really good headlamp is made by energizer. I picked my third one up at Lowes for 15 bucks. Runs off AAAs and seems to last forever.

Awesome, I`ll give that one a look too. I love the headlamps for deer hunting, even tho I carry a couple Surefire flashlights. For climbing into the stand, and for field dressing after dark, they`re invaluable.

I just found these on another site. I think I will get some for me, my wife, and mother.

Well worth it in my opinion. Can't tell you the number of times having even a small light was worth it's weight in gold.

I've got a little single LED Garrity light on my key chain with a 'press-on' button. It doesn't remain on but is excellent for locating keys and locks etc at night. I bought some of the 3 LED lights at Harbor Freight for $2 each right after Christmas. Gave a couple away to a good friend and I've still got 4 or 6 of them in various places. Also, a 12v spotlight in my van in case I need 'real' light sometime.

I really like the idea of one attached to the zipper of packs and BOB's. Hadn't thought about that....and I could tie it on with jute and a quick release knot just to have extra jute.

I've got several of the cap lights ($5 each) with 5 LED's and a good harness light that I got as a Christmas present. It's a Trailfinder brand with 3 LED's (2 flood lights, one red NV light) that's nice to have.

I have one of those energizers...your right, they are very good. My wife and I use it a lot to check on livestock at night, etc. I also have a gerber cap light, gerber lantern that is LED and runs on C batteries ( lasts forever ), 2 large mags, a gerber carnivore in my bob, and a leatherman led compact...along with tons of extra batteries. You cant have enought lights around !

After seeing this thread, I went to Light Hound, and ordered a few of their keychain lights. These do stay on when you press the button. For about $1.00 apiece, can't be beat. Funny thing, theyusually will include one of these in with your order. I ordered 5 lights, and they sent me an extra. I am going to make a headband, or other way to make these hands free.
