When I was very young my friends and I were always looking for every little thrill we could get. On a couple of occasions we walked out into the open and fired my friends compound bow straight up into the air. I remember looking into the sky and not being able to see the arrow, and then within milliseconds the arrow appeared and landed about 10 feet away from me! And it sunk 8 or 10 inches into the dirt too... stupid. Very stupid.

Here in LA it's usually a tradition on New Year's eve at the stroke of midnight to fire a gun into the air to welcome in the new year. Whether firing straight or in an arch, two tourists in New Orleans were killed in exactly this fashion from a fallen bullet. It is now a banned practice in New Orleans.

If I am lost in the deep woods, the last thing I would be concerned with is whether somebody is close enough to be hit by one of my three spent bullets. If there are enough people around for that to be a concern, and you are still lost, I reckon you have bigger problems than you let on.... and being lost probably ain't one of them. By the way, your physics is all wrong with the 90 degree comment. Isn't three shots based on something from the Masons?
