I am sure that it has been touched on before in the forum, but I just wanted to remind everyone.

Yeah, I was wondering about those shots going in the air being heard also. Even though lost, one should have an idea of what is surrounding him. I mean, unless you dropped off blindfolded, if you are say, going hunting, surely you are, if in strange areas, check out maps and should know how far life is and so forth. I am not sure how far the sound of a gun shot can be heard, (anyone know?) and so it it is ten miles to any life, why waste the shots. I think it is more pertinent for everyone to carry survival whistles into the lonely, hidden wilderness. For me, I don't go hunting in strange areas without things like waterproof matches, whistle, have studied maps of the area, compass, knife and yep, a couple of three emergency blankets. I will figure out some way of signalling. And, one thing I have not seen mentioned here any where, I am pretty new though and could well have missed them, but the family radios. Many will reach well over 30 miles and have multiple channels. These would be great items to carry into the wilderness. While the distance they are rated for is straight line clear shot, trees and etc, will cut down the range, but, the more they are rated for, the better chance of getting out, right? Just my thoughts and I might well be completely wrong as this is all knew to me, sort of.
