I know they are worthless if they get wet,but you can break the sticks short enough to put half dozen in a ziplock and they would make a good lightweight signal flare if lost.I like the ones that pop at the end.[report]You might could use em for scarein off a bear too.I saw where CW put short pieces of sparklers in his pack for firestarters as well.

I don't carry bottle rockets or roman candles for the same reasons I don't carry flares. 1) I don't trust things that can explode in my pack. and 2) I don't want to accidentally pop one off to get rescued only to have it land hot in a dry patch of forest and burn it (and ME) down. I suppose that the resulting fire WOULD get you noticed, but I am not sure it is worth the cost. I DO carry one of those really cool pocket sized aerofoil kites, and have strips of mylar from a ruined space blanket that I can tie to it as a reflector/radar target. The thing is palm-sized and gets great air. If it's at night, I can attach one of my keychain LEDs to it to get the strobing up above the treeline.

I tend to go for a 26.5 mm Flare gun I got a really cool one that you can easily start a fire with and is instant daylight at night (up to 20 seconds)

I just carry an RPG. Works for signaling & can take down elephants & rhyno for a quick meal.

the one where you tape match heads to the base of a deodorant can then shoot it with a bb gun for a signal flare/rocket had me in stitches

then there was the time they packed a tennins ball with safety matches and didn't understand why it didn't explode
