Default +1 for Kids

I used to give whistles away to kids when I gave "training classes" and talks to kids at boy scouts, church groups and other kid related functions. they are cheap, loud and prolly the most important part of a child's survival kit.

For a FYI a good whistle is imperative while rock climbing or ice climbing at certain crags if there are a lot of other rock climbers or ice climbers on it . It warns people below or above you directly. In case they fall you dont want to get entangled in there main belay rope or if there is a dislodged rock on the way down or ice chunk if your water fall climbing. Its not info for survival so much but its good for outdoor knowledge.

And in those cases having it around your neck instead of being stowed would probably be wise

I agree I always have a whistle
I carry one on my daypacks shoulder strap, and whistle/paracord end on my keychain, I use this to get the dog's attention when they start to wonder to far away on the farm.

I always wear mine around my neck when hiking. It's kinda funny, cause all the people I have seen on the AT while I have been up there, not ONE was wearing their whistle that I could see. If something happens to me, I don't want to have to look for my whistle to signal for help.

I carry one on my key chain, one around my neck while hiking and also one hanging off my backpack. I'll always have a whistle!

I have this one....P less of course, on one of my neck knives but it doesn't show up too well. Pretty loud though.

My brother saw my whistle on my keychain today and goes, "What is that, your rape whistle?" What a jerk. Lol.
