i have a couple of fox40 wistles but the loudest whistle i ever owned (and still have) was for non line of site crane directions, we used them on building sites on a regular basis and on the side it says rated to a minimum of 148db which can cause all sorts of weird sensations if blown continuously

Default A great survival skill that everyone should learn

A great survival skill that everyone should learn - how to whistle loudly with AND WITHOUT fingers (so you always have an option regardless of whether or not your whistle is handy when you need it)

Actually - based on my research the JetScrem is 122 Decibels

There is a Fox40 Whistle called the Sonik which is 125 Decibels.

Not sure the 3 Decibels makes much difference though :-)

great. I always require my kids to have a whistle when we go hiking (and they know why they have it, and what to do if lost) I've taught them from under 2yrs old to blow a whistle!

also, a good skill for everyone to have is to be able to whistle loud without a whistle. being able to do so without fingers is even better. not as loud as a good whistle, but still better than screaming. I've whistled instinctively and loudly (because I can w/ no fingers) to prevent accident's about to happen on construction sites, as well as in parking lots.

Well it sure would suck if your obituary read, Poor bastard would have survived if only his whistle was 3 decibels higher.

Kevin, great job teaching the kids that basic instruction. yeah I can whistle very loud with no fingers or any set of two or a thumb and one. I learned it for rock/ice climbing if the wind has picked up so we can use hand signals instead.

This is a captain obvious statement for everyone but make sure when you use your whistle to blow 3 times, you cup your ears with your hands. You'd be suprised at the amount of people who don't do that or know that.

Thats the proper way of using a survival whistle without disturbing your woods sense of hearing/distance hearing not to mention damaging your ear drums. Just some thoughts
