Default Rescue Laser Light

These are a little pricey, but I am going to post it anyway. It is a Rescue Laser Light that can be seen 20-30 miles at night, 1-5 miles during the day, runs for hours on batteries, waterproof down to 80 feet, they present no fire hazard, you can take on airplanes.
There may be someone in the forums here that may be interrested in them. If you are, you can check them out further at http://www.greatlandlaser.com.

thanks for the post - interesting idea - pricey - but if you are out in the wilderness a lot this may be worth it

Hey, you know how all the great stuff you guys can get your hands on easily like guns, ammo, knives, MRE's etc. You cant get em here. Wanna know what else is illegal here? THOSE! Its lame, but police helicopter pilots were complaining that people were shining them at their aircraft and it may "blind" them and cause a crash. Its never happend, but because of some whining pilots that puts up another item on the illegal list.

Lame huh?

Back on topic I think they would be great in a situation where you need to signal an aircraft. Even if it "blinds them". Pffft

Here its a crime to use a laser in such a way that it's light is seen by anyone piloting an aircraft. They give their position, and the tower calls the local police to search the area for the perp. Down near Detroit Metro a couple years ago they caught a couple of teens doing it and they got SPANKED with some serious fines and the threat of federal jail time for it. They plea bargained it down, but it just shows ya they are serious about that.

That being said, I still carry a red laser pointer with a cap that says "SOS". It may do nothing, but it might save my butt, and I'll worry about the charges when they have me safely back in civilization.

PS: Cost for the laser and a bunch of cool caps like UFO and Smiley Face, along with the SOS I carry? $1.00. Yup, good ol' Dollar Store to the rescue again.

Thats not all, due to a worsening graffiti problem, it is now illegal to carry permanent markers and etching devices unless you have reasons to be carrying them lawfully. Up to 6 months jail for it if convicted. Its been illegal to purchase spray paint under the age of 18 for quite a while here but this is a fairly new one.

I kinda agree with this one though. Why would a kid or even a young adult have one of these in their pocket unless they were up to no good? Then again, thats what tour government says about knives and firearms too.

EDIT: Didnt think it was illegal there too CW. I thought it was our government overreacting as per usual.

If you look at the website and read the most frequently asked questions section, it explains how that the Rescue Laser does not impair a pilots vision. The laser's don't throw a beam of light, but rather a fan of light.
Go to the site and read about them.

I understand, and I did read the FAQ on the way the light works, but I guarantee you that this thing still breaks the Laser provision in the Homeland Security Protocol (originally in the Patriot Act) and is therefore considered a threat and is punishable under the law (I presume of course that a signal from an emergency would be enough to get you out of trouble in real life, but I wouldn't "practice" with it near an airport!). The following is the sad tale of a guy in Jersey who found out the Patriot Act's Laser laws hard way.

Man charged for airplane laser prank - Crime & courts- msnbc.com

If you insist on trying it out, you must fill out THIS form for the FAA detailing the type and power of your laser, duration of your usage, possible impact on nearby air traffic patterns, etc. Weirdly enough, this applies to everything from pointers to laser light shows.

CW, I am not trying to get into a shouting match with you, I was just posting the website for a "FYI" announcement. Anyone that may be interested in the product can make their own mind up.

I wasn't trying to shout you down either buddy, just mentioning that like many other things that seem like a great thing that could really help the average citizen (like stunguns, tasers, pepper spray, bulletproof vests, etc.) the government has grossly over-reacted again and made their use either terribly restricted or illegal. As I said, I would still use it in a survival situation, and if they want to give me flak AFTER they rescue me....FINE. At least I would be alive to defend myself. Just didn't want folks getting them, or another type of laser and testing it out, only to have Homeland Security or the local cops roll up to inform them they are doing something illegal.

Sorry if it sounded like I was dismissing the value of the item or your contribution. That was not my intention.
