We've got some new FireSteel gear you guys may find interesting. ![]() Created in collaboration with a Survival Topics forum member, all around great guy and friend - FireSteel Tubes are now available in the gear section. At this time these tubes carry your choice of either the Armageddon (3/8 x 4-inches) or Survival (5/16 x 4 inches) FireSteels. In a short time there will be several other sizes, including key chain models. You can also order blank tubes that fit FireSteels with these two diameters and that are 4-inches long or less. The tube itself is made of exceedingly rugged aluminum (I can stand on it and jump around with no denting) measuring 5-1/4 inches long by 1-inch in diameter with a lanyard hole on one end. An interesting and handy feature of the FireSteel tube is that you unscrew the cap (to which the firesteel is attached), turn it around, and screw it back into the tube - creating a hand-sized handle that gives you an excellent grip bar none: ![]() Inside the FireSteel Tube it is spacious enough to add a length of steel wool, fat wood tinder, or what have you to help make your fires blaze. Plans are being made to make several key chain versions of these FireTubes. I also plan on making a video showcasing these FireSteel Tubes and usage. Stay tuned. I've been asked if the FireSteel in the FireSteel Tubes can be replaced when it is worn out (which will take the making of many hundreds of fires!). The answer is yes. Carefully heat the cap that holds the firesteel with a torch or similar means. This will cause the cap to expand and and the glue to release the firesteel. Guerilla glue or similar expoxy, found at your local hardward store or China Mart, works well for glueing a new FireSteel into the FireTube cap. Your purchase helps support the Survival Topics website and a special forum member! For more info, visit the Survival Topics Gear section: FireSteel Tubes |

It IS awsome. I took one of these with me on my recent trip to the wilderness. Of course, it works great, because it has one of Ron's firesteels in it! It's also rugged and water resistant. Ron sent mine with some fine steel wool wrapped around the firesteel, and the O-ring-sealed tube keeps the steel wool dry and rust free...very cool. Thanks Ron.

You could even use that as a makeshift kuboton. Hey anonymous forum member/collaborator... good job. That looks nice. I am sure, with the addition of Ron's firesteel.com firesteels, that it is MUCH better than even RAT Cutlery's Fire Kit.
