Nearly all of us could be convicted felons, had we only been caught. Should this prohibit you from bearing arms? If so, feel free to send me your guns. You can bet there are people working hard to make it a felony for anyone to bear arms. |

I have a few friends who have lost their gun rights because they got into domestic fights with their spouses, gf/bf, roommates etc. I don't know about everywhere else, but here in Michigan, if you are arrested and convicted (or plea bargained to a lesser charge that is still a "domestic battery" charge) for domestic violence, you are outta luck for ever owning a firearm again. I have had one friend who was having problems with his wife and going through a bad divorce, when she decided to "win" an arguement by bruising her own arm, like she had been grabbed, and called the cops. She knew they would take away his guns and his hunting license, which he lived for, if he got hit for domestic battery. It was her word and injury against his. He is still trying to fight it, but the odds are against him. So, just a warning, becoming a "felon" could be a lot easier than you might think. Unswydd, I am sorry about your situation. It stinks that you have to pay for an indiscretion decades ago. There should be some sort of time limit on such things, based on the crime in question. If it wasn't a violent crime, or was a victimless crime, then you should have a chance to regain your rights after a specific amount of time. JMHO.

That really sucks about your friend. I know women like that. Awful! yeah, you're right. You'd think that after so many years it would be alright to own a firearm again. I've gone the route of getting my record exsponged but they want an awful lot of money for it. It's really not fair I know but it is what it is.
