Default Understanding partners

A recent conversation between myself and the future Mrs Englishman went a little like this

"Hun, why have I opened the the closet and found a big reel of rope, some dust masks and a box of latex gloves"

"Erm well they will be handy one day and I couldn't find anywhere else to stash them"

"I see... exactly what will they be handy for one day"

"Well anything really, building, medical emergencies, tying things up, really the possibilities are endless (and even possibly exciting)"

"I worry about you sometimes"

Personally I would be willing to bet that I'm not alone in living with someone who thinks that they are a little bit odd...but loves them anyway and I was wondering how many people out there have partners that are preppers/survivalists etc versus those of us who have long suffering partners who occasionally wonder why there is a bowie knife tapped to the underside of the toilet cistern (you just never know what could happen in there!)

I'm just waiting for the ticking off I will receive when she finds my most recent purchases... not to mention the fact that I plan on going camping all this weekend instead of going visiting with her

I guess you could have told her that Valentines day is coming up and you had some sort of kinky plan. But, now she's gone and ruined it so she's just getting a card.

Cowgirl I tell you the random answers that were popping through my head were manifold but that would have taken the biscuit.

As for bathroom knives they are the way forward I swear it, you never know quite when the S will HTF it could well be whilst the S is hitting something else

I am lucky in that I am coming down the back side of that hill. My wife asked for a BOB for her car (ok so she called it a car safety kit) and during a canning class she met some preppers that were very low key and she liked their reasons for being prepared. She even just ordered a huge dehydrator for us and wants me to in stall a generator transfer panel and second wood stove. You have to ease them into it. If you come home with arm loads of guns, ammo, knives, camo clothes and freeze dried food, it tends to send up the loony flag. To me I always went with the soft sell, (hon. these are emergency supplies, you know the bad weather we always get and how we always loose power). I am lucky in that my wife really wants to get on the path to simplified living and self sufficient and sustainable living. I think some of the new TV shows on like Armageddon really opened her eyes and all of the recent natural disasters have opened her eyes to the fact that the Sh%t can hit the fan any place any time. Also for her Katrina showed her that our Government is not going to be able to do much to help in a large scale event and that you have to be ready to take care of your self. Heck I always leave the papers out turned to bad events and call her in to see SHTF event on the news, it all helps. But surprising them with a trunk full of ropes, duct tape, a tarp, a shovel, hand saw and back pack loaded with E&E supplies could easily be taken the wrong way.

I listened to that crap for years.

It would be wise to rid yourself of her while you can.

Cheaper now too.

Thats great that your wife is showing an interest, I think one of the biggest factors to surviving whatever it might be is simply having the mindset of being prepared and knowing that something could happen.

Unluckily for my girlfriend I have been a prepper/survival enthusiast since I was a kid, so ever since she has known me there have been the ropes, knives and other assorted gear... I think she just reckons there is a certain magical amount of supplies that count as enough and that once that amount is reached it will all stop...

WC as harsh as it sounds I have often contemplated the option of going it alone, mainly as I can envisage plenty of situations that I could cope with quite easily by myself but not nearly half as easily if I had to be concerned about others.

Unfortunately this damned love business seems to have my head a bit addled with regards bugging out of this particular situation!
