i'm reading a book called solitudes by robert kull. he gets dropped off by boat on some random island off the coast of chilie, or maybe argentenia. he lives there alone for a year, building his own cabin, fishing, and other normal survival stuff. the book is a journal, written almost daily. there are also some random interludes that were written after his return. the book has a spiritual (not necessarily religious) element to it. the introspective moments one has when confronted by being totally alone and thinking about serious stuff like what are we doing here. i'm not done the book yet, but its a true story and published after the guy returned, so it obviously has a happy ending.

of course i find inspiration in classics like walden, and journey to the center of the earth, gullivers travels and dharma bums. those are all essential reading as far as im concerned. also surfacing by margret atwood. so many more. i'd love to chat about them with anyone.
