it has maybe 60 feet of cordage in it what you can see

my biggest problem making one was keeping it all uniform; I believe a tool of some sort is typically used to keep long cord in check; and to get uniform openings. this part I do not know.

thats awesome blacksmith. and kev it looks good when its uniform but if it catches fish when you need it to then who cares what it looks like right?
keep up the great work guys. im thinking kevin, about getting a 4x8' peice of osb plywood( about 6 bucks at lowes) and taking 1'' drywall screws and making a pattern for a ''networking board''(lol). it would give you the uniformity you are looking for i think. you could hang it up on the wall and it would be the right size for a hammock, shelter stabilizer etc... 4x8 would go accross a small river area easy or stream... tricky part will be marking screw holes, but a chalkline would help in that...

How do you get strips of cedar bark that small without them breaking?

Starting Your Net-More than Fish and Hammocks

Cordage : Netting, Hammock, Bag, Splice, Glue

Cordage

work the bark green and wet or soak it in warm water not hot
the book cedar has most of this in it but you need both books
cedar and Indian fishing early methods on the northwest coast by Hilary Stewart
they are great survival books if you are on water
