prolly the first place i would be going to would be my local bunnings (giant hardware store) after borrowing my mates 7.5 ton truck

Yeah, people will panic and loot anything that's not tied down whether it's useful or not.

Most big box stores do not allow their loss prevention team to touch a thief. That however is changing at the store I work in for a few hours each week. They also recruited the biggest guys in the store for the LP team. I think the regular theives will be surprised.


As far as last minute prepping. I decided that the Asian food stores would be a good place. They are hardly ever busy and have lots of good things. I like the idea of feed and hardware stores too!!!

harbour freights are sometimes rather small and have a large number of items although others may think the same so it may be a gamble

I think if SHTF and you had to be a looter for any reason then you werent properly prepared and you then deserve to be caught and treated like a criminal. Won't help your family much if your under Military lockup for stealing some basic agricultural seeds. To me stealing is stealing. Barter it , buy it, make it but dont steal it.People may say ya but Im starving well then you should have prepared better. Go get some 1.00 snare wire and get yourself some chow. Woods are full of food not a need to steal it.

Very good point as alot of people won't be prepared(its YOUR FAULT not the feds or your friends)and will loot. As to snares do you think they'll be effective in an urban enviroment?(I think a bird snare might work well)

Drug stores will be hit hard by looters. A lot of drug stores now carry food. I always thought that when the weather people say the "S" word (snow) here, I would go to the drug store instead of the grocery store. However, all the druggies would be looting the drug stores for drugs...

Im not sure employees could hold back a looting crowd. There was a big black boy trampled to death about a year ago manning a door for shoppers wanting to get a new x-box, so imagine if their starving and desparate.

Walmart, Black Friday (Day after Thanksgiving). The guy was part of the cleaning crew, and wasn't even a greeter or sales associate. They just figured he was big, so he could open the doors that all those people outside were pushing against. He was trampled to death, and when the cops came and tried to empty the store as a crime scene, people got violent and beligerant saying "That's not MY fault he's dead! Why should I have to leave and not get these sales because some guy DIED!" Self-centered pieces of crap! That's the kind of folks you'd be facing out there, people. Not just the armed bikers with an attitude, not just the killer gangbangers, and not just the lowlife criminals out there stealing TVs or stereos in the middle of a disaster. No no no. You would be in the middle of a mob that literally didn't care whether you lived or died, as long as they were getting what they wanted. If they had to stomp you to death, and drag your children along on their bumper down the street, then that's just the way it is, as long as THEY GOT THEIRS! Crazy.
