Default guns

I believe the best guns would be

12 ga double barrel ( the perfect all round weapon)
- slugs for big game
- buckshot for defense/big game
- some sort of birdshot 6's

22 LR bolt action( mine is actually a pump)

main reason is that its easy to accumulate and transport thousands of rounds, it is also accurate and capable to take small game but also
can take big game.

any thing else would be a plus , maybe a highpowered rifle as a 3rd choice but
I wouldnt want to do with out the first two.

An even more interesting question is if you could only have one gun , what would it be???

for me, it is obvious the 12 ga double with an assortment of shotshells

(15%slugs 15% buckshot 70% #6's )

Mossberg superdefender .12 ga.
taurus 24/7 9mm with multiple 17 round mags.
Stag arms M4/ar15 in .223/5.56 with the .22 cal. bolt conversion kit
If I can only take 3 weapons if I can I'd also take my raptor 30.06 bolt action
Course then I'll have to take my barrett .50

Rem. 12ga 870
Hi-Point 9mm
and some sort of bolt 308 (virtually same as 7.62x51)
(all these are very common and affordable rounds, normally)

I know the Remington 870 and Hi-Point are very affordable and pretty well built.

I agree with the being able to carry more rounds for a 22, and now questioning my choices. I would really like having a handgun as a backup when hunting in the SHTF situation, now i guess i need to rethink this.

... so hmm. ok. I will swap out the 308 for the Ruger 10/22.
Here in jersey, we dont have long expanses anyway, so it wont make much sense around here.

Dont forget a bow as well.

Those are all good suggestions but consider this. As late as it is in the hour, ammo is going to be a concern. Might as well have ammo that can work in a handgun as well as a rifle.

.357/12 gauge Marlin 24
.22 lr of your choice
.357 handgun used

The combo rifle/shotgun is only single shot but if it's for hunting, who cares. Make 'em count. You make use of the same ammo for the rifle as well as the handgun and you've got your bases covered inside 150 or so yards. .357 is also very easy ammo to reload. You can also shoot slugs through the shotgun (actually could be 20 gauge also) for large game as well as birds and smaller quarry.

Handgun, .45 acp, or .357
Shotgun, Browning BPS in 12 Ga.
Rifle, AR15 in 5.56 mm

That covers hunting, man, and game, and all the self-defense necessary.

I do also have a sweet Remington 552 SpeedMaster in my battery, along with a Tuarus 941 wheel gun in .22 mag, another nice little round that will easily dispatch a man if needed.

It`s not only fun to run down these lists, but serves the purpose of getting us to think thru a serious situation.

my choices:

my 45 haskell(high-point) with 6 extra mags
tactical 12 ga. with full rifled barrel #1 buckshot(no over prenatration) rifled slugs and 50 cal sabots

308 cal rifle easy to find ammo especail since any thing using a nato round could be clamped down if the military got involved, reloaded ammo using .224 sabots can be loaded using low,med or high charges for what ever you need it for, from small game to taking out a bad guy in body armour, and standard .308 ammo for big game.

Handgun - No choice here, a revolver, 357 that goes 38 for the cheap hunter, why revolver, semi's are nice, but jamming, breakage while minimal in todays standards, still more likely then my revolver.

Shotgun - Any of them will do just nicely, pump perferably. I have a 1300 Winchester, but I would like a Mossy 590 Special Tactical Vented 8 Shot and if you go this route (pistol grip), 2 3/4 shells #4 Buck with some Double OO buck both good man stoppers.

Long Rifle - Never leave home with it. 30/06 for that reach out and touch someone purpose or hunting. A long rifle with a dual purpose is a must.

I'll add a good Knife and my modified Short Sword for me personally for those up close and personal altercations.

Someone here mentioned Bows, I haven't had much dealings with them, would love to have one and learn to use one, a recurved one seems the simplest yet most effective without getting into all that technology.
