Hi cap shotgun mine is a 870 w/ rifle sights for slugs. I am partial to .357's, revolver and marlin lever guns. I have enough center fire bolt guns ( I collect), and the base of collection a .22 rifle. Urban? would not catch me without a shotgun. I like 12 ga, but a 20 is just as good.

Well I can't own or carry guns in my country and the only time that I am armed is during my military service.

But if given a choice of 3 guns, I would not hesitate to take a M4 (5.56mm) - as a primary rifle to take down targets with suppressive/repeating fire, a Glock (either a 9mm or 40 caliber) - as a secondary backup weapon, and a S&W 4 inch 50 caliber revolver - as a survival/hunting gun.

Handgun: A Taurus Judge! That's my woods gun, an extremely versatile pistol. Some folks say they're not accurate but I can testify that they are!
Rifle: A .30-30 lever action. Mossberg makes a good one.
Shotgun: 12 gauge pump action.

Another consideration for someone on a budget is the Russian Mosin-Nagant. There's thousands of them currently flooding the market and they're dirt cheap and as a bonus it's easy to find ammo for them. I own two. The first was just the rifle and I got it for $75 and the second is the rifle, a sling, two ammo pouches, an oil/solvent can, and a bayonet, all of which I got for $115. These rifles are pretty old (both of mine were made in 1944) so when you go to your gun shop, get one of the sales reps to look at them with you and help you pick out the best one. Make sure you look down the barrel carefully and don't buy it if you see any pitting.

Bear in mind that this is a very "rough" rifle built with fairly loose tolerances so it does have some disadvantages. The biggest one is recoil. The joke is that the first shot dislocates your shoulder and the next one knocks it back into place, so I highly recommend buying one of those slip-on recoil pads, just don't leave the pad on the rifle when you're not using it as it can react with the finish and damage it. The second disadvantage is that the Russians seemingly loved swapping the parts around and it's pretty normal for the rifle and bolt to have mismatched serial numbers. That's not a huge deal, but it could hurt the collector's value if you are worried about something like that. The rifle is also about four feet long, so that can be a pain sometimes and it's also pretty ugly. However, it can take a lot of punishment and come back smiling and it's also very accurate. Furthermore, that 7.62 x 54R round packs a big wallop!

My three choices are weapons to do different jobs.

Glock 17 (9mm)- Used for a back-up weapon that can be carried with you at all times. Ammo is cheap and is abundant. Very reliable and low maintainence. Need to have night sights, the original issue sights are not metal and break off.

Mossberg 500 (12 Gauge)- Used for hunting small to large game. Ammo very versitile from bird shot, 00 Buck and slug. Great for home defense. Ammo is cheap and available all over.

M-4 (5.56)- Used for hunting medium to large game. Self-Defense, high capacity mags, very accurate, light weight. Ammo is cheap and abundant at most stores.

The main reason for these choices is ammo, these calibers can be bought pretty much anywhere ammo is sold. The M-4 also has the intimidation factor with it. Confronting an adversary with an M-4 will make them think twice. You can also get a .22 conversion kit for your M-4 if you want to take out a rodent or rabbit. I love the Ruger 10/22, but the intimidation factor is not there. Thats why this is my wifes primary weapon,

I can attest to the power of a Mosin(bought mine for $109 with bayonet, cleaning kit, oil bottle, and carry case for the kit.) Seems the one Got got was never issued took me three hours to remove the cosmoline from the barrel and working parts. They do make an after market Monte Carlo stock for them which helps improve the accuracy plus a recoil pad. The issued stock has a steel buttplate so it will bruise your shoulder, if you don't put a recoil pad on it. I also got a scope mount for mine that replaces the front leaf sight and a long eye relief scope.

I know I will be hearing it for this one but.... In northern Illinois, the highest sales for the hand gun is the .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol
for the rifle it is the .30 60 (7.62 x 63 mm) caliber
and the 12 gage (we all knew that one though)

That means that in my area, if you over take an enemy, you have a good chance of gaining these types of ammo.

Yeah, I got the Monte Carlo stock for the first one I bought. I love it!
