Default Tight budget so What 3 guns for Urban\suburban SHTF?

Most people can't afford a BOL so if your stuck with bugging in(aka hiding out) and you can only afford a 3 gun battery, what would you choose?

Here's my choices based on location...

Urban...like concrete canyon land;
12ga pump(Rem. 870,Mossberg 500, etc)
9mm Hi-Cap Auto pistol 13 shot mag or better
.22\410 O\U
Defensive work will be close quarters and the O\U will do for small game foraging(cats, dogs, rats, pigeons, etc.)

Suburban

A little more room in this area so...

SKS for longer range defensive work
12 ga for close quarters
.22lr bolt action for foraging.

9mm Hi Cap (Glock)
10-22 Ruger or possibly a .223 Bolt Gun

On a tight budget??

SKS
Shotgun (590 if you could afford it)
.22LR (Ruger if you could afford it)

Yup... I didn't put a handgun on there. If you are close enough where you need a gun, but too close of combat for the SKS, unsheath your Crocodile Dundee knife.

WC has everything covered.

I would also agree and get a fourth weapon - bolt action rifle in .223, 308 or 30-06.

Dont forget to start with a case of ammo for each......

Default On a tight budget?

I have an AK but if i did not have it i would go with the SKS for less money.
I have an 870 and if i did not have it i would buy an 870.
have the S&W 40E and i love it but any cheaper gun like maybe Taurus would work fine.

I have lots more guns than this but these 3 would be a good start with 5K
rounds each with reloading supplies or 10K without.

I do believe i would rather be unholstering my 40 while the other guy was unsheathing his knife.

Tough call on only three...I'd agree generally with most posts here:

Handgun - anything from 9mm to .45. Personal defense.
Rifle - .30-06 would be fine. Also most common ammo for a hunting rifle in a SHTF situation. Great for big game.
Shotgun - 870 seems to be a crowd favorite. Great for birds, home defense and even bigger game when using slugs.

Those would cover most of your needs. But if you add something like a 10-22, I think you'd have pretty much all of your bases covered.

For the hunting aspect of surviving, a lot would depend on where you live. Folks in the Midwestern US often hunt deer with shotguns. If that's the case, then I'd nix the .30-06 in favor of the 10-22. Where I live in the southwest US, we do a lot of long-range glassing with relatively long shots, so I'd opt for the .30-06 instead of the 10-22.

Why not a .40 cal, that way if you run across a downed police officer you have ammo, doesn't anyone play resident evil? Plus SOCOM just changed over to the .40 so there may be an abundance of ammo around in stores etc. Just a thought.
