Default New challenge, this one in transportation

Let's say you're on the run, you're being hunted by highly sophisticated bad guys who have access to all sorts of classified computer information and passenger records for airlines. It's a matter of life and death. You have to get out of Los Angeles, have to find someplace safe to hide out. You don't have a car of your own. You only have what you carry: $200 cash, no passport, no luggage, no credit cards (credit card usage would be trackable by the bad guys anyway). What do you do, where do you go, and how do you get there?

ooh. Its a good one. I would personally go to the nearest mountain range in L. A. which i think is the San Berandinro mountains or something like that. I would just take a cab and have them drive me to the bottom of the mountain range. If i lost the guys by then i would just hike and hike until i find a creek and lay low for a week. After that I would take another bus or train to Arizona.( its a state I know well). I would change my name and all of that and start a new life.

Take the "hobo express", a freight train. Hop on at a slow area near the exit of a rail yard, beyond where the inspectors and guards are. If I was in LA, I'd probably head down south to the Baja, and sneak over into Mexico. From there you can pay someone to crew or ride on their fishing boat or stow away on various other craft. Other choice? You could go to the port of Los Angeles and get aboard one of the cargo container freighters there. From there you could get to anyplace in the world. Just make sure you check where this ship's port of call is going to be! LOL

Yeah, I would kind of do the same thing.
If they are high tech, I'd go low tech off the grid. Maybe work my way to a bad area and try to blend in as there would be many cameras in the metro areas.

Once I'm in the hood, I'd befriend (using some of my $200) anybody that could get me a ride out of the immediate area. Maybe I'd become an illegal alien in Mexico and sponge off them for a while? Then once I'm settled, I'd start sending away for family members to move to my new home (using pigeons to deliver the message of course). I guess to pay for my new life, I'd have to do some of the work that the locals just won't do.

Wish me luck!

Rule number one: Never ever EVER try to re-enter your old life. If you contact family or friends, that is where they will get you. You can't control everything that those people say and do, after you have sent them word of your location (by the way, homing pigeons will only work if they are FROM your house. Otherwise they won't just go there. They have no GPS or Mapquest! LOL). If you have family that you want with you, make it a one-time shot. Have them pay cash, get a bus ticket to a neutral location, and lay low until you can get to them, scope out the area for a while for anyone watching them, and then get them and yourselves into oblivion as quickly and quietly as possible. AND DON'T LOOK BACK!

99.999% of people caught after "disappearing" are nabbed because they tried to re-enter their old life somehow. Went to a funeral, sent a note to a friend, made a call to a child or parent or spouse, tried to access old bank accounts or retrieve mail from a post office box, or something equally stupid. If you are gonna fade away, make it a permanent thing.

First thing - think of which modes of modern transportation are the least likely to have sophisticated surveillance. Old hard wired cameras linked to in house cameras would be safe. New fangled wireless cctv cameras wouldn't be. BUT, this place would also need to have sophisticated ticket sales. Maybe Greyhound?

Take a cab to the local rite-aid. Swap out the contents of two colors of hair dye. Buy one and pay with your credit card if you have it. If he is sophisticated enough to find out what you bought, he would be looking for a blonde instead of a brunette.

Then go to the ticket place decided above, have the cab wait while to buy a ticket going in the opposite direction that you are planning, but the most likely for you to go. IE: someplace you have close friends or family. Again, pay with the credit card if you have it.

Then take the cab to somewhere else, away from surveillance cameras. Is the city buses there safe? Or do they have CCTV? If they are safe, hop on one to ANOTHER place, most likely one of the ways already mentioned.

I would definately go south to the border first, hopping a train I think is the best. I would then create a new identy and get a license and other forms of indentification. I would get a job and make few friends. Hide out for several years 4 or 5 then I would travel to where my family is and scope it out for a few months and see if I could then contact them. If not go in under the cover of night leave a note or something just to let them know I'm alright and get the He double L out of there.

I'm hearing a lot of south bound trips being suggested, maybe I'll just stay in the hood.
