I presume food wasn't a problem. good news during ice storm is even if the power goes., the freezer stays running. but seriously, how was your food situation?

also, I dont know about kerosene, but you might check on whether it requires a stabilizer for long term storage.

Ky....... Man do i know where you're coming from I live in Evansville. We got hit pretty hard here but not as bad as you guys did. My family lives in madisonville. They were out of power for 3 weeks. Here we were out just over a week. Fortuinatly with me being a prepper for years we did okay. we had 3 generators. a 1350w, a 3500w, and a 75kw. So we were okay on power, having a well we just hooked up our pump to the small genny. I advise everyone to try to invest in at least 1 genny, 3000w+. We also had/have 2 kerosene heaters and 2 radiant haeters that we ran off the mid size genny. We have had for over 4 years kept a 3+ month food storage. I have a 92 jeep xj that is set up to go almost anywhere, so getting around was no problem. Commo was ham radio and cell phones. The onlt problem we had was due to power outages no cable so my wife about went nuts without oprah,Dr.Phil, and her nightime TV. But we did have plenty of videos. Picked up 4-5 dozen at yard sales the previous summer for .50 cents to $1 each, and continue to do so now. I recommend you consider them as well. Most people that prep don't think of entertainment in there preps. Some to consider

Videos/DVD's
Board games
Cards
puzzles both jigsaw and crossword

I am sure everyone here can add to this list as well.

arch non-stabilized K1 kerosene will last for 3-4 years without any problems. I have kept it that long and had no problems using it in my heaters. Although If you plan on keeping it over 1 year it's not a bad idea to add stabilizer as it's not that expensive.

Hey! I live in Union County, which is just south of Henderson County, which is just south of the river from you. It's a small world. Here's the kicker! My parents live in Madisonville too!

We have entertainment down now. We have cards and crossword puzzles in our kit. Can't quite afford a genie. I've been looking for the older type just have a little power but I can live without it. Nice to hear from ya.

Do you know how many gallons of gas it can hold? That's not a bad deal. I'm going to check into that.

It's a small one so maybe 1/2 gallon tank is about the size of a push mower tank

...I had to rely on my girls parents to bring us kerosene. (Talk about feeling like you can't take care of your family.) I was humbled. I didn't even have a heater (her grand pa supplied that) or a radio. We went 5 days without contact with the outside world. On the 5th day, the dollar store opened and I was able to get a radio. I also picked up some candles (what was left). Resources were exhausted quick. Lanterns, oil, camping supplies, and kerosene were bought within hours of the power outage. Kerosene was hard to get cause gas stations run their pumps off electricity. I was surprised that none of them had generator back up.

The funny thing is, I was in Wal-Mart the night before the storm and everyone was in a mad rush to buy everything up. Me being naive, I was laughing at everyone and at how much they were overreacting about the Ice Storm. Well...the joke was on me.
Once I was able to scrape enough supplies it was actually time consuming to survive. I was actually satisfied when I went to bed. I felt like I had earned my day and had a reason to drink one of them beers I kept out in the ice.

I started out with nothing. These were the items I acquired in a few short days during the storm.

Radio
Lantern
Lantern Oil
Kerosene Heater
8 stick Candles
12 tea candles
a pack of C batteries
Zippo Lighter Fluid
10 Gallons of Kerosene

That's it. Nothing more.

In all we were without power for 2 weeks. We couldn't get our van out of the driveway for days.

I've attached some picks.
I went through the exact same Ice Storm and while our city wasn't as bad off as other people were, a good majority of people lost power. My family had to move and stay in a hotel for the night but heck that's not even a bad scenario really to be honest. KYwildsurvive's experience with the storm was much more dire than anyone elses in our city I'm afraid :/ We've had several ice storms here in the past couple of years I am unsure of which he is speaking of but either way :P

A good example of what you need to keep in stock. Ive lived thru 1 ice storm here, hail but we do have outages from hurricanes, however things are different in that it is hot weather and not freezing.
