You might want to slyly spread the rumor that you pawned off your guns for rent/food/gas money. Just casually mention it while complaining about how tough the economy is. You will only need to tell one lowlife and they will shortly all know. Don't over do it or you won't be believeable.

Gun safes are good for guns and other stuff that fits too. Even the cheaper ones give some fire protection if things dont get too hot

Good move. Honestly it's the best thing you could have done at this moment. Obviously moving is a long term goal, but keeping your guns out of the hands of criminals is far more immediate, so grats on getting the gun safe.

Great. Is that bed raised? That would be great place for storing your gears, could you put a small cabinet on its side under there and lock it?
Pity your not here in NZ, I would have given you a room for less than that.

Glad you are getting one of the problems fixed.

Another suggestion would be to ask your hunting buddies (if you can trust them enough) to keep your guns safe.

You can temporarily sell them too (not sure if you always have to sell them cheaper and then can only buy them dearer) and buy something similar or identical later when situation improves.

You can keep parts of your guns with somebody else (like your buddies mentioned above) so even if stolen will be inoperable.

Hope you can make your place even safer soon!

All good ideas, and if I were you I'd move ASAP... personally, I'd install some cheap motion alarms and, if possible, bar your window. Also, avoid letting those (insert various insults to describe druggies/criminals in your building here)s know you have ANYTHING worth taking. I recommend getting a worn-out coat from Salvation Army or Goodwill to wear inside the building. Take it off in your car if you don't want to be seen in public with it. Just don't let them know you have something valuable.

Oh, and if I were you I'd keep a gun loaded and within reach if I were you. I'd trust an addict as much as I do a cornered, rabid wolverine. I know a couple druggies in my school, and they seem like nice people, but I wouldn't trust them without their pot... or with it, actually.
