Default Long term water storage

Anyone have any resource information about how to store water for long spans of time up to one year and possibly beyond?

Food grade polyethylene drums are best.Store out of direct sunlight, and disinfect initially with bleach.3 tablespoons to 55 gallons of water.Change the water every 3-5 years.

i just re-use the large water bottles for my water dispenser we have a natural spring on the property, but just keep them out of the sunlight in a dark cool area and i rotate everyyear, if they don't get used in that time them they go into the horse trough and i refill for another year

Default Long term water storage

I just wanted to share something I discovered just yesterday. It is a water soluble product that you find in the swimming pool supply store or can be bought online although doing that you have to pay the high shipping fees.

It is called Chloronated concentrate and only takes 1/4 teaspoon in a 55 gal container. It does require 24 hours to work in to the water but it treats successfully ALL bad things found in today's every worsening water supply.

The company that I saw marketing it is called SPA and can be found just about anywhere pool stuff if sold. It is recommended that you NOT use the treatment until you are ready to use it plus the 24 hour treatment time. It has no expiration date so can be stored indefinitely without worry about rotation.

It is safe for consumption and comes in a portable container so it could even be packed along with a BOB.

As long as water is stored in a dark place it should be good indefinately. With VERY old water it should be boiled or treated with purification tablets but water in clay containers found in Egyptian tombs was drinkable once boiled.

That's 3500+ year old water.

Great, now I'm thinking about "the Water Boy" with Adam Sandler!

Default Stabilized Liquid Oxygen

I like stabilized liquid oxygen for long term water storage. The stuff is good to have on hand because it has a lot of other (supposed) uses, it stores way longer than chlorine (which starts to deteriorate after about a year), and is small and easy to carry with you (2 oz bottle fits in your pocket and goes a long way).

One ounce will stabilize 55 gallons of water for 5 years.

Here's a link:

Stabilized Oxygen Water Purifier: Maintain Clean Water

You can find more about it by poking around on any internet search engine and make up your own mind, but this is the stuff I use for my set of 55 gallon drums and I keep a 2oz bottle in my BOB and in my camping gear.

I've never seen anything about water being found intact in pyramids or tombs. I have seen information about beers and wines, but even those were only the remaining dregs in the jars and some recipes written down on the walls of the tombs. The liquids had long since evaporated out. Interested people have resurrected the beers and wines, based on the ingredients found in the dregs and listed in the recipes, but many things are still unknown, and the modern versions might actually be nothing like the originals. The reason for the beer and wine was due to the highly contaminated water of the Nile, with it's enormous number of parasites. Like medieval Europe and ancient Rome, everyone in the family would likely be drinking a fermented beverage of some sort, because it was the safest way to stay hydrated without getting sick or dying.

I've never heard that either, but I HAVE heard of honey being found in ancient Egyptian tombs that was still edible. (they didn't mention if it was crystalized to the point of mummification or not...)
